Gadzooks! A 1,500 pound rodent!
I don’t believe they exist.
Ha ha - I saw that article too. What’s up with dinosaur times? Why was everything so big?
Actually, this animal lived about 50 million years after the dinosaurs. Giantism was very common in South America (and most of the world) prior to the human advent. For example, Glyptodon, an armadillo, was the size of a Volkswagon Beetle.
Some of the giants went extinct for climatological or other natural reasons, but the consensus is that many (especially in North and South America) were wiped out when we arrived. Big animals make for big, tempting targets.
Australia had a ton of giant marcupials and such. And then man came and was hungry and ate them.
Top o’ the food chain, baby!
There also use to be really huge flightless birds, and not like pussy emus, we’re talking earthbound rapors with huge claws and hooked beaks. Totally cool.
