The ending sucked not because it didn’t have a boss monster – I hate boss monsters as well and prefer “normal dude” crescendos – but because there was just no build-up to any ending. The entire end level just sort of happened right out of thin air. Here you are, moseying along, when Mr. In Charge Guy says: “Go assault the base NOW”. OK, so you roar out there in your car, and fight a few other cars, just like you did in the last mission. Then you enter a linear corridor base and kill some doods, just like you did in the last mission. There’s a “lock the doors until the spawns end” fight, like in the last mission. Then some more doods. Then finally, another lock doors/spawns end fight that’s not even really in a cool arena or anything. And then…that’s it.
It’s bizarre that the “shoot the pretty colors” boss fight is in the middle of the game, rather than at the end, and while I can’t back it up, I just absolutely know something bigger had to be cut at the end for whatever reason.
I’m really enjoying this now. Reached Subwaytown and several mission areas after that, and it really is looking like a visual tour de force now. I don’t think that’s true of the exteriors, but the interior shooty parts - has SP shooting ever been this impressive?
That Fedexy start really does it a disservice IMO.
Playing with a friend the Legends of the Wasteland coop, we got stuck in the Extermination mission in Nightmare. We tried it four or five times, but the last room is too hard, without space to avoid the monsters.
I don’t want to lower the difficulty to normal :(

If you are past Wellspring(sewer town or whatever) there is a guy at the airship that will bring you back to wellspring.
If you are not there…it is pretty hard to get lost in the wasteland. It is really linear.
Good lord, that was the worst ending to a game I can remember. Rage makes a pretty strong argument in favour of professional reviewers finishing a game before they write a review, because Rage’s ending really brought the whole experience down a notch for me.
Did it fix Minecraft? Thanks the the last set of AMD/Rage drivers, Minecraft is completely broken for me and for quite a few other AMD owners.
I could swear i executed Minecraft two weeks ago, and it ran fine. I will try it again when I come back to home.
Well, it runs, but not exactly fine. Fraps says it’s running at 45-55 fps, but it feels like some sluggish 20-25 fps, it feels laggy.
I have the preview 2 drivers.
Hah! With the new Catalyst driver, the first time I came back to Wellspring I got a town full of barely-textured polygons. That’s the first time I’ve seen it. Save and reload fixed it and I haven’t had any other problems yet.
Oh those loveable losers at ATI. What hijinks will they get into this week?
It fixed the flapping cloth textures for me. I do still get some weird low res stuff at the top of Subwaytown seen from the outside though.
It did it again. I’m going back to preview2. They said preview3 is pretty much the next main driver release, so I guess I’d better finish Rage off before I upgrade.
Is there a reason why the sewer enemies have such low health? Do later sewers have stronger enemies or are they all like that?

Man, I’m glad I have an Nvidia card. I’m not a fanboy of either company, I’ve alternated between them over the years, but Rage was pretty much flawless. There’ve been no Nvidia driver updates since the game was released, only the one small game patch that exposed in-game graphic tweaks, and Rage plays spot-on.
I’ll also get to kick around those PhysX enhanced piles of paper and disperse clouds of fog in Arkham City next month. The thrills never end.
Ati’s support of Opengl was always a little bit flaky (i can remember not having a very good performance in ET Quake Wars when i switched from Nvidia to Ati in 2007), but it seemed to have gone to toilet in the last two years. I tried 3 opengl games this year (Brink, Doom3’s The Dark Mod, and Rage) and the three had problems, in different ways.
I did recently play / beat Return to Castle Wolfenstein (Steam version) with my Radeon 4870 without problems (that one is Open GL as well or?).
Still my next card will be Nvidia again (that Radeon was my only ATI card so far) as they have better drivers and PhysX is also a plus (though not game-breaking).
Kind of running Rage okay at this point, but I’ve enabled the console in my game - which it is kindly informing me of every few minutes when it lets me know I won’t be getting an achievement. Anyone know how to turn off the achievement not rewarded messages?

I loved that, particularly because of the dire warnings before you went in. The old guy seemed really concerned that I wasn’t coming back. I went down, melee’d every mutant in the face and exited. … That’s it?
I think they have the same health as always, the difference is those sewers are usually very narrow and linear (well, more than usual), so they only can attack you rushing straight. Easy to kill them that way.
Apart from that, well, i already said the game is very easy, in general.
