Rainbow Six Siege

This all backfired pretty spectacularly.

Does anyone know if the Rainbow Six Siege Legacy Operator Bundle is still available in any way? I’ve seen references to it but I cannot find it via the in-game store or externally.

I’m guessing it might be retired now, but I’m not 100% sure.

Thanks.

UBI forums mention it was moved:

I am gonna try this again over the free weekend, if I do decide to pick it up, which version is the best bang for buck?

Watching @Jason_McMaster play this has given me the itch to give it another go.

Thanks lordkosc, though I was roughly trying those directions last night but still couldn’t find it in the Operators section. It was also really late and I was tired so I will check again this evening.

I don’t know what edition is the best value, but don’t purchase the Starter edition. That extends the grind to unlock new operators to intolerable lengths.

Free play weekend now. Given it a try.
Is there really no matchmaking reinforcements while playing? We were doing bomb diffusal and ended up with only 2 players… got a bit tricky.
Also seems like the time limited ubisoft challenges all require the expensive operators to complete?

Probably just luck of the recent draw. I have not played for a few weeks, but for the month prior to that most of the timed challenges I saw and attempted were with core operators.

Yea, these one are the ‘valentines’ challenges, so I dont expect to see them again for another year :)

Also seems like Hostage Defence isn’t suited for this game, as the person that rushes and leaves the hostage alone gets all the kills == points, whereas those who stay and defend the hostage get no kills for keeping the hostage alive…

Well I don’t need to worry about that anymore!

Starting with the new season of DLC on March 3, all versions of the game except for the Starter Edition will include all 20 base Operators for no extra charge. In addition, all past and future weapon attachments will now be unlocked from the get-go, and the game’s Starter Edition will now include six Operators rather than four, as was the case before.

Currently, players wanting to unlock more Operators are required to either spend in-game experience points, called Renown, or pay real-world money to purchase various season passes. Going forward, all 20 Operators included with the game at launch will be automatically unlocked, along with all weapon attachments

Noice. Though by free I think they still mean they will need to be unlocked with in-game renown, just not the ludicrously grindy amounts of it that the year 2/3/etc operators cost.

Actually I don’t think that is correct. The Starter Edition will still need to use Renown but as I read it other editions will just get them unlocked on March 3rd. I might be wrong though.

I will try to find other sources.

This is how another site worded the announcement:

For all editions other than the starter, players will have all of the original 20 operators unlocked without having to grind for Renown.

Starter edition players will still have to pay extra Renown to unlock operators, but now it’ll be easier to kit out the ones you have.

Anyone playing the co-op vs AI Outbreak mode?

I played a little last night and really enjoyed it despite the significant challenge. This mode is supposed to be time-limited but I really hope it stays indefinitely.

While playing I was reminded that the sound design in this game is nearly unparalleled.

Ha, I am guessing that Rainbow 6 Siege is not that popular around these parts since I wrote the last 3 comments.

I just wanted to stop in again to recommend the time-limited Outbreak mode in Siege. If you own the game and want to experience a great PvE Left 4 Dead-like mode then I would highly suggest trying it. The Outbreak mode plays just like a Left 4 Dead campaign where you are moving through somewhat open levels performing objectives (escorting scientists, placing explosive charges) fighting an array of infected humans that have turned into zombie-like creatures.

So the assymetry of L4D but with much more tactical and precise combat. Even the infected have more complicated behaviors than run of the mill trash in L4D. In Siege, you will see zombified humans and if you can headshot them from a distance then that is an instant kill, but if they hear gunfire, or you shine your flashlight on them, or if you just hit their body they transform into a more lethal armored version. That is just one example of the really creative enemy design.

It’s a great way to experience Siege’s excellent gunplay and tactical precision without having to wade into the harsher PVP matches. There are only about 7 days left for this mode (sadly!).

Finally picked this game up, but looks like there isn’t much play going on around here. If anyone here is still playing, any tips for a beginner?

Also, I am kind of surprised this game is still as popular as it is. It is pretty much the DOTA of first person shooters – steep learning curve and all. Usually these kind of games get thrown under the bus in favor of more straightforward shooters (hello COD), but this one has quite a following.

You really do get dumped in the deep end. You need to learn the maps and tactics the hard way before you’ll get anywhere. The only advice I’d give is to stick to a few operators that you enjoy. For simple options: on defense Rook is always useful, and on offense Sledge’s hammer is pretty flexible. Whatever your taste is, just pick a few you like and stick to them for now.

The game is VERY unforgiving so prepare yourself for a lot of frustrating deaths. Watch the kill cams, learn your lesson, keep plugging along.

Yeah, no kidding. Luckily, the kill cams seem pretty good, and you can always spectate the better players to see what they do. I really like how clever plays often trumps pure reflexes in this game.

Thank you VERY much for confirming my initial suspicions of this game. Instead of a possibility if on sale, this is now a definite pass.

To be fair: it’s an incredibly rewarding, unique shooter if you’re willing to deal with the learning curve. But it can be a nightmare to get there.

There’s also a co-operative terrorist hunt mode if you just want to play around with all the great toys.

I’ve been playing with my brother at least a couple of nights a week (kinda random, but we’re usually playing on mondays). Totally recommend Icycat’s videos as a good way to start learning the game. Start with the operator profiles of characters you want to try out. He does a really good job of getting across the basics, usually in about 10 minutes. I’ve also found that watching the pro league matches are helpful for learning strategies.

Looks like this is getting another free weekend this week. I’ve recently dusted this off and have been having a blast with it solo. Its amazingly fun once you get over the initial hump. Luckily, there are lots of good youtube videos for learning the basics.

Anyone else still play?
