I probably won’t be sleeping at all tonight because goddamned Club Quarters on West Adams in Chicago has decided that everyone wants their room to be 85 degrees. The thermostat on the wall has no effect.

I had booked two nights, but I called downstairs and told them I’d be gone in the morning. I got a cheap rate at Hotel Indigo, which is much nicer but further from the conference I’m supposed to be attending.

Holy crap, it’s 1 a.m. I wonder if one of these desk chairs is heavy enough to break a window.

Last night I bought a big package of those cheese cracker snack packs. It has 12 packages of them, in fact. As of now, I’ve already eaten half of them.

Just saw Captain Eo. Very much does not hold up. Before the show they had a little making of documentary featuring Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. It’s amazing how human Lucas used to look before he got all blobular.

I just bought a one way ticket to dublin that leaves in 14 days. I plan on traveling europe, india and southeast asia until next spring/summer. That’s about as far as my plan has gotten. Shit, what am I thinking…?

“Would dying in a ditch in Vietnam really be so bad?”

Seriously, though, awesome plan, have you bought an interrail or something for Europe? Doing couchsurfing/hospitality club?

Hostels mostly it looks like, this whole thing is being played completely by ear. Horribly reckless. I have some friends in Ireland I hope will let me sleep on the couch to save some money for a night or two for a bed, but who knows. I do plan on getting an interrail, haven’t yet though. Shit, just realized I’ll need vaccinations.

Are you by any chance related to the fish?

Seriously, have a most excellent trip!

hospitalityclub might be a good idea to get through Europe. Though it’s difficult to say how much success you’ll have since you haven’t used the site before.

I MISS MY 360 SO MUCH :( :( :(

Consider using this website. I havn’t done it internationally, but in the states I have met nothing but the best kind of people. Several of whom have used the site internationally.

http://www.couchsurfing.org/

Hey cool, there’s a a few entries for North Korea, six in Somalia and thirty five in Antarctica. That would be a trip to remember.

I don’t know how anybody could be homeless in Oregon, we’ve got thousands of entries for this state alone. This site and the local homeless shelters need to team up.

Crunchy people love to couchsurf, crunchy people also love Oregon.

My boyfriend and I were heading through WV. Less than 10 entries in any one city in West Virginia…except for Morgantown which had over 100.

It’s kind of embarrassing when you send in an application/cover letter in which every time you refer to Wah Chang, you instead refer to Wu Change.

Dammit.

Thanks for the links guys, I’ll take a look and try to put them to good use. Can’t wait to go, but I’m honestly shitting a brick thinking about it.
Any seasoned travelers/backpackers have some more advice? I’ve never been out of the states, and my only backpacking experience is wilderness tours, nothing urban.

Be wary when sexy Europeans lure you to a secluded spa/hostel

My all time favorite line from 30 rock: " never go with a hippie to a second location."

Might also have a eurotrash corollary.

Had to use a corded mouse (and with a mouse-ball, instead of a laser) today. Good god, it was a harsh reminder about how much I take modern technology for granted.

Did you have to remove the ball in order to clean the rollers so that it would properly register the movement?

I remember those days. I don’t miss them.

“What do you mean ‘Justin Bieber’ isn’t a proper safe word?”
