I was about to say, some people are still using Juno. But I see Matt has that covered.

We have a few clients like that.

E-mail snobbery? I never knew such a thing existed.

Then you’re obviously not one of us.

I was wondering why they scheduled so many of us on Thanksgiving at work and now I know. My employer has pretty much decided to say “screw you” when it comes to employees and holidays and now will be promoting Thanksgiving Day sales to get people to come in. Great, so now I get to spend my holiday (not that there will be one) at work dealing with jackasses out to get deals that day. And since I’m part-time, I only get part-time holiday pay even though I’ll be working 8 hours that day.

That blows. Working retail is pretty awful, but you could usually be sure you’d have Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter off. What madness! As if Black Friday isn’t grim enough for retail employees without having to work the day before, too.

I just got a job in retail, and I probably decided to do so at the worst possible moment.

What the hell is up with these stupid registration/request for info verification systems? Fine, I get that you don’t want bots breaking in or registering, but you can at least use real words for the damn things. They are hard enough to read as it is without trying to figure out whether that’s supposed to be a “j” or an “i” because of how its presented. And this is a game message board! My bank account is easier to get to.

Wow, I have two Hotmail accounts. At least that explains why my knuckles are always so scuffed up.

Getting my beard trimmed professionally is fantastically soothing.

Work would often be less complicated if there were fewer functionally illiterate people that you needed to help.

I do too. Do you still use them professionally?

Well no, not professionally.

You actually can’t. If you’re using a hotmail address, you are by definition not being professional. It’s like wearing Crocs to work - if you do so, you are not a professional.

Then there’s the difference. The people mentioned before were using it as their professional email address, which is embarrassing.

In IT perhaps. Does a @panix.com email do anything for you? They’re still handing those out. How about @mit.edu? Media folks might get some old school cred with @well.com. What if it’s Sabeer and he wants to buy you out?

How does using an email address from MIT make someone look stupid, exactly?

fwiw, Earthlink “resells” Time Warner Cable internet. It’s $40 / month compared to $60 / month for TWC NY. It’s been that way for at least 10 years. IIRC the email addresses provided are earthlink.net

No, it’s pretty embarrassing in any field. Hotmail is a personal client, everyone should have a separate address for personal and professional use.

And if someone emailed me from @mit.edu, I wouldn’t think less of them. Or any .edu for that matter.

Hotmail, yahoo, or aol are all embarrassing. Those are accounts you should be signing up for porn with, not for talking with real people. Get a Gmail account, at the very least.

I have a Yahoo account I use as my personal/professional email. I don’t use it for anything business-related, since I have a work email for that, but I used it back when I was jobhunting.
