Does anyone happen to know the proof for |e^(-ix)|^2 = 1 off-hand, or even the name of the identity? I know it’s true but I cannot for the life me prove it using trig identities and euler’s identity.

Don’t recognize it, sorry. Related to Euler’s formula perhaps?
e^(ix) = cos x + (i)sin x

alternately:
e^(-ix) = cos x - (i)sin x

Although top of my head you could take the sqrt() of both sides and simplify that bad boy. :) I worked through many proofs backwards back in the day, helped figure out the steps.

There’s a great anthropology/sociology answer for this I heard once. In poor neighborhoods, it’s taken as a fact of life that younger children will not get new clothes, but instead always be wearing hand-me-downs from their older siblings. Wearing pants that are too large and sagging is, therefore, an implication that the wearer has a much larger older brother around somewhere. Thus, mess with him, and you’ll have someone larger messing with you.
