That depends. Is it the sort of gift that requires feeding five times daily and a college trust fund?
Do you now have a machine gun?

Now wouldnât that be some âgift.â Thank God, no.
A day or two ago Matt and I were talking about high school, and I mentioned that I felt I would have been much better friends with a guy I knew then if I hadnât been such a 15-year-old about things - I had a transparent crush on him, and despite his clear non-interest I kept trying to get him to like me. I can see now that a romantic relationship with him would have been an utter disaster, but our senses of humor meshed well, and I think we could have been great friends. I finished up by saying that well, who knows, maybe Iâll run into him again someday, and I can apologize for my general teenager-y behavior and we can be friends again.
Last night, I had a dream about that very thing. Weird!

Why is there an universal concept of time (hours, minutes, seconds, timezones, etc), but not a universal concept of money, measurements, and any other number of things?
Why is time broken into 24 hours, 60 minutes, and 60 seconds? What prompted that particular demarcation?

My lower jaw has started growing out. What used to be an overbite when I was a kid has turned into an underbite in middle-age. Is this common?
Because a second is the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom, obviously.

Why do we use a base 10 system? Most people will say its because we have 10 fingers, so base 10 seemed ânaturalâ or intuitive to most people.
But the ancient Egyptians have always been smarter than we are. They counted knuckles, not fingers. Specifically they counted the finger joints they could point to with their thumb. There are 12 finger joints on each hand, so they used a base 12 system. All the numbers were right there. Base 12 is a more elegant system because it has more whole integers than base 10 (1,2,3,4,6,12) and even divides better by common factors (3/4 of 12, etc).
So its no surprise that when the Egyptians laid out the hours, minutes and seconds it was in a base 12 system. To them, 12/60/60 are as natural of breaking points as 10/50/50 would be to us.

So it turns out that Christmas Eve drenching has probably lead to the cold I have now. Itâs a mild cold, but still annoying. Time to buy cold medicine, I guess.
While I admit my nearly being murdered by a guy in a sidewalk snow plow may be somewhat my fault, it was certainly an exciting way to start the day.
Christmas with the in-laws:
Meghan: âMy brothers really like you now.â
Me: âI think it was because I kept them updated on how their fantasy teams were doing during Sundays and Thanksgiving.â
Joe: âYeah, that was pretty much it.â
Coming from a family full of women, itâs nice to yell at the TV with guys around my age during Chiefs games.
