I misread that as Hungry Hippo at first.

Happy or hungry, he was delicious. The outside is a light crispy wafer with a light cocoa and a cream filling. Much better than most of the native sweets.

I’m really bad at programming.

Automata homework that took all of my friends 5+ hours to do took me two hours, including rewriting a third of them because I made a fundamental error in my understanding of DPDAs.

Data Structures homework that took them a half-hour has taken me ten hours and climbing.

I’m really bad at programming. This is a problem.

Now I know how Subway can afford this ā€œevery sub $5ā€ deal they have right now - they reduce what they put into the more expensive ones.

So good! Although not as good as the near-mythical Kinder Softie.

That hippo doesn’t look so happy… Quizzical, perhaps, but happy, no.

Also, I hate reading my old Usenet posts. If there’s one thing I hope I’ve learned over the years, it’s to stop talking before I get too bogged down in pretentious twaddle.

I have to decide between four of my favourite things. (Three actually as I’ll be drinking for all of them.) Rugby, tabletop gaming and the results of an election.

If you haven’t followed an Irish election, or any election that uses PR:STV (Proportional Representation: Single Transferable Vote) then you’re really missing out. It has all the drama of people being knocked out and succeeding, but incorporates complicated percentage based maths on transferable votes between different parties and alliances, with the people getting knocked out and the people getting elected transferring their excess votes to other people. It’s a real joy in the election sphere. Depending on my mood I’d put it above the Electoral College system for the American President. And it’s far superior than the FPTP in Britain.

Now I have to squeeze out the last few hours of election coverage before voting tomorrow. Come 2pm today the media will have to stop covering the campaigning. Which does any other country have a moratorium on coverage of an election just prior to votes being cast?

Canada has something, but I’m not sure of the details. I do know (from watching the CBC on cable a few times) that the CBC doesn’t show any election results coverage in a timezone until the polls have closed. But there probably isn’t any way to enforce that in the internet age.

Abe Vigoda turns 90 today.

More of a random fact than a random thought.

I hate my job but I have one really, really good friend who works here. She hates her job too, so we bonded over that.

Today she turned in her two weeks.

I’m happy for her, but I’m kind of depressed too.

Blerg.

Strawberry is easily the best Starburst flavor, with Orange and Cherry on equal footing, and Lemon the clear loser.

Happy B-day to Fish, my favorite Barney Miller character.

I think he even got a spin-off called Fish.

I have two words for you: kept man.

So today I see that my newly made bed has a lump on it, courtesy of my cat, Harry.

I’m in the midst of cleaning, so as soon as I start the vacuum cleaner, he of course bolts.

So what comes in my head? ā€œAfter the Love has Goneā€ by Earth, Wind and Fire, only in my mind, I replace ā€œLoveā€ with ā€œLumpā€ and start a whole new set of lyrics.

Hey, I like Lemon! It’s easily my favorite.

Clearly he should just send all his lemon Starburst to us.

An unlit candle frightens no monkey.

Do people ever install urinals in their homes?

Often wondered if some folks do.

That sounds filthy.
