Ew, had new idea. Ew, ew, ew.

I’m sure it’s not that new, these are RenFaire geeks, they’ll get their pork on anywhere.

I never give back final exams. The students are gone anyway. So I’m not sure how I would get them to them. I guess I could for some classes, who take their finals earlier. But I don’t. If they want to know what they got on the final, they can email me.

Besides, there are no comments on final exams/papers. I don’t have time. They grade MUCH faster, though, which is nice. Too bad there are so many at once!

The total absence of feedback on exams has always bothered me. How am I supposed to improve if I don’t know what I did right and what I did wrong?

Education is about grades, silly. Don’t even try to play the “But I must fix what I did wrong, for the follow-up class” card.

I can think of about 100 reasons why that paper should have been an A

Hand them back! It drives me crazy when I don’t get to see my final, especially if there was new content on it. Let me know what I got right and wrong so I can know in the future. To be fair I even want to know what was right and wrong if I got an A in the class, it’s just how I am.

I don’t get any of my finals back, although there is no way for me to haggle, it’s pretty cut and dried whether you used the right formula or not. I think I can go have a look through the final with the professor if I want to, but I don’t get to take it home with me after.

Found this magazine while doing some Spring cleaning today (Oct. 2000):

Man, I could go for a new NOLF game.

Also covered in this issue: Stars: Supernova, Diablo II, Icewind Dale, Terminus, VTM: Redemption & Homm III.

I hate it when it’s hot when it’s not actually hot. Outside temperature: 63. Temp in my room right now, which has a large west facing window with the sun coming straight in from the late afternoon to early evening: nearly 80.

I find it funny that my love for ABBA began with Information Society.

My enjoyment of ABBA began when I heard first heard ABBA around 1978-ish.

Agnetha FĂ€ltskog was my favorite.

What, no preview of Duke Nukem Forever?

You’re far better than a lot of lecturers I had.

I bet you even offer to meet students while they have essaus to write and give them some academic direction to it. You might even be a lecturer who will let them submit draft versions for you to comment on and let them re-submit a final version.

That’s interesting. I got my finals back with feedback, pretty frequently, from most of my professors or TAs. We’d usually pick them up from an envelope or box in front of their office door. One time I did have to e-mail the TA and pick it up next quarter. I usually liked reading the comments
 well
not liked, but felt the need to.

I really don’t get that. Only once have I ever disputed a grade in my academic career (and it wasn’t even over getting an A), and I still felt pretty bad about it later. I emailed one professor after a quarter was over to compliment her on the excellent class, selection of material, and what I thought was relevance to the students. She responded that she usually only receives emails from students when they want to complain about classes.

I was, I think, too young when they came out to fully appreciate them. And I always had a thing for Anni-Frid Lyngstad my own self.
