That looks like a fun little browser game. Thanks.

My pleasure! You might want to check out the I’m going back down to Fallen London. Who’s with me? thread.

Truly, the Go-Go’s Beauty and the Beat is an amazing, seminal album. The hooks, the guitar and bass solos, the driving beat, everything. Those women could rock.

Nice! Orion makes some really nice stuff, especially for the price.

Be aware that astronomy is a very addicting and potentially very expensive hobby (just ask Gus!). ;)

I do indeed understand the addictive quality. My understanding is that I need better eyepieces for this scope at the very least. Unfortunately the weather here has been rain or overcast since I got it. Hey it’s the peak of hurricane season here and we have not gotten a real hurricane yet, so I can’t complain. But several storms have been sending clouds my way. So there is that.

I’m looking forward to October when rain isn’t in the forecast every day.

That’s the curse. Get any new astro-gear and you’re guaranteed cloudy skies for at least a few days.

You’ll have a great time looking at all sorts of things. Hope you get clear skies soon!

Heh. Tonight the rain is coming in waves. It sounds like cars driving down the road.

But thanks for the support. :-)

Do you ever try to do the right thing in business but end up pissing everyone off anyway? Today was… pretty bad. Feel terrible :/. I’m actually very squishy and just want to be friends with everyone, but that’s just not possible is it?

I’m kind of the same way. I want everyone to like me. But I end up pissing someone off. And when I ask them, What did I do wrong? It seems to make them even more pissed off. I have never been able to figure out what it was that I did wrong. And I have even had friends tell me, this guy was a dick. But still couldn’t figure out what I did. To me it’s a mystery.

Life she is a cruel mistress. But, a mistress nevertheless!

Now I know it rains here. It is Florida. But I think that the only way that I could see clear sky is to take my telescope out front and pound it into scrap with a 5 pound sledgehammer. The gods of weather hate me.

I’m another one who feels the same way.

A clementine sits on the corner of my office desk. It’s been there a couple of weeks now. I am curious to see how long it will take to start dissolving.

I foresee much mold in your future. Also, I recommend not staring into the abyss.

After all (one of my favorite sayings) -

Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Neitzsche

It depends on the climate of the place you live. Here they normally (assuming the skin is intact to start with and it’s out in open air by itself) will simply dehydrate if left alone long enough.

I woke up and wanted to reconstruct my childhood home.

My artistic skills are very low and memory is fuzzy, so I need to edit stuff easily. This seems to make computer-based solutions better. Ideas on material or toolset?

  1. CAD of some sort - I played with cadkey for a couple of years back in the DOS days.
1a) Some sort of modeling software that is used by 3d printers. Then I could order the stuff printed on a bureau and have an actual dollhouse.
  2. Clay/matchsticks/paper machier? Seems messy.
  3. Minecraft? I haven’t used it since early beta. Seems like a PITA to build when I could just draw a line.
  4. EQ next? If they didn’t wipe the stuff and made me grind up maintenance constantly.

The place was two stories. Ground floor was a store and storage area. Top floor was living quarters with four bedrooms.

I’m working on a project that involves Google Sketchup right now. There’s a free version that I’m pretty sure has most of the functionality you’ll ever need. A major caveat though is that this is one of the most frustrating projects I’ve worked on in a while. We are basically teaching ourselves the software and there are a lot of youtube tutorials available, but I’m starting to think there are things that it’s just not meant to do. If you plan on making anything with lots of curvy lines for example (like say, a column capital), be prepared for frustration.

On the plus side, we’re planning on 3d printing the result so apparently it’s possible to do with a sketchup model. Also I’m told it’s easy to import and export sketchup files into and out of different programs, but I’m not savvy enough with this stuff for that.

  1. My lack of familiarity with CAD is one of my great failings. All I know is that AutoCAD is incredibly popular with people who seem to know what they’re doing when making things like plans and maps.

Anyway, I’m not sure how helpful that is but I’m just throwing out another option. I’m sure there are people around here with a lot more experience in this sort of thing.

So @Krayzkrok how does Bismarck meassure up to Smaug?

Massive crocodile shot in Zimbabwe

(EDIT: eh… How do you tag someone again?)

Well, I saw this photo on a wall in Botswana back in June, so it definitely wasn’t shot in August. Also, no way is it 9 m long. Assuming the guy on the left is a little under 2 m, that puts the croc around the 4.5 m plus ( 14-15 ft) mark. Smaug is 4.9 m (15.5 ft), so they’re close although Nile crocs are bulkier for their length compared with salties. Smaug is far more handsome though.

Guess that confirms you just can’t trust the media for accurate reporting & journalism! :)
Thanks for the info!
