Having chronic pain, I found out today I’m allergic to my pain meds.
So, my doctor is having me try oxycodone. (have read up on it)
Here’s to hoping I’m not allergic.
I’ll post a few once I have time. The beef stew is especially awesome.
Corned beef hash is simple. I put roughly equal amounts of corned beef and diced potatoes (about 3 cups each) in a mixing bowl. Added one diced onion and maybe half a cup of milk (may try chicken stock next time for fun).
Mix well, stick it all in the crock pot. Since I was around I put it on high for about 4 hours. I imagine you could do low and just let it go all day, but you’d probably want to grease the inside of the crock if you can’t stir it once in a while. Can use leftover corned beef, which I also make in the crock pot, or even canned which still turns out better than most restaurant corned beef hash honestly.

Are you familiar with the wonder that is a Pressure Cooker, sir?
Most restaurant corned beef hash today is canned at this point.
Does the slow cooker do any kind of browning, or do you put it in a skillet before serving or anything like that? Corned beef hash without delicious crunchy brown bits is an abomination.
I hope you will. Especially the beef stew one. Corned beef hash and eggs is one of my favorite things to order for breakfast at a diner. It’s one of those things I love to compare across those kinds of restaurants, like chicken fried steak. As much as I cook, I have never made it myself. I thought making the corned beef too daunting a task.
If you do get a chance to post the recipes, you might consider doing so in the Slow Cooker thread if you have a mind to. That thread hasn’t seen any love in four years! Wherever you post, please do so when you have the time. I love making beef stew, and have never done it in my slow cooker.
Thanks!

I visit our client in Amsterdam every two weeks or so for a couple of days.
Today for some reason I feel really lonely here. I spoke with my wife and she told me our daughter won a writing competition so they are having a mini celebration. I’m sitting in the hotel bar having my third or fourth pint of Heineken and fealing miserable. I wish I wasn’t here but it sure does bring the money in.
As a father of two small children I can totally relate to that feeling. On the other hand, dude you’re in Amsterdam! Maybe a stroll around the block, some kind of night life nearby, an art gallery, anything to distract the mind for a little while? As an American I envy that kind of opportunity - Eddie Izzard has a bit describing Europe as the place where all the history is. Of course you may have been doing this routine for some time and this may be old hat for you, but is there anything near to you or easy to get to that might catch your interest?

I’m near the Ajax stadium which is a dreary and dismal place. I thought of catching interstellar in Imax but the thought of being alone in a theater depressed me. Going to the city is useless as it’s late and everything is closed.
On the plus side, I’m having a double Glenfiddich.

But thanks for replying, makes me feel less alone.

Another Heineken. Here is my random thought: people create families so they won’t be alone.
I know a couple of guys who are single at 40 plus with seemingly no intention of ever bringing anyone into their life. Is it choice? My kids invade every part of my life. How would it be without them? Boring and dismal or full of opportunities? I can’t imagine it without a dread.
Another thought which is not my own: posting while drunk is never a good idea.
I have a small dilemma. I found a discarded Amazon prime box with all the packing foam inside it - clearly not for recycling. Upon investigating, it had my neighbor’s address but a different name. I know this neighbor, he’s an 80ish year old man and I fix his cable boxes and things once in a while.
He tells me he’s received packages three days in a row, Wednesday through Friday. On Wednesday a bunch of kids (13 yrs old?) came to pick it up.
This is clearly a stolen credit card with merchandise shipped to a different address.
My question is who to report this to.
Merchants: Probably too much work and no prosecution will occur. Card may be flagged thought
Police: I have not had much positive help from police when theft or whatever has occurred.
USPS inspectors: Some of the packages seem to be USPS so it may fall under their purview?
Heck, isn’t it technically secret service that did credit card fraud?
You’ve ascertained that said gentleman isn’t getting his credit cards charged? If so, then I’d contact the merchants involved and at least the card will be flagged as you say. And if the USPS delivered some of the packages, yeah, I’d call the number for the postal inspectors.
I think the Secret Service is (besides protecting the President and high officials) in charge of seeking out and busting counterfeiters.
Okay, I wrote USPS and Amazon! I’m relieved I don’t have to contact the police. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure that I have figured out which of my neighbors are drug dealers by their Christmas lights. There are certain houses that either have their lights on for a day or two straight. But then they leave their lights off for a day or two. At first I thought that it might be due to not being home. But no. They are always home. They have lots of different cars arriving at all hours day and night.
I could be wrong. And I hope that I am. But there are occasional fights in front of the houses. Cars pull up, but then they see me on my porch and drive away quickly with headlights off.
Creepy? Or I’m paranoid?
Small update.
Amazon sent me a return label for the merchandize. The interesting thing is it has the account’s real address. It’s about ten blocks, across the park from here. That makes it unlikely it was wind blowing boxes. Address typo is equally unlikely because the five numbers of the address are completely different.
Played phone tag with postal inspector.
I googled a Facebook profile of the name. The guy looks very big and is cutting a birthday cake with a huge ass kitchen knife. I am a worrywart.
One of my neighbors is similar richVR. There are cars just parked at late hours. My friend told me they are swapping car parts (obtained through dubious circumstances one assumes).
The Wire says any stashhouse would have lots of camera coverage. Any cameras? Unless they are super sneaky and blend in by not putting cameras. Yeah logic dictates those are the people you really have to worry about! :p
Orlando’s population is like 20% drug dealers I’m pretty sure, so yeah, probably. :P
In all seriousness I feel that Orlando has a crime problem, but then again so does Tampa. It probably has more to do with where you live.
