The hell?

Ahh I didn’t even know that was possible. Good stuff, I appreciate the interior modeling and everything but I want the visibility.

Gauss is a guy’s last name as it pronounced the first way you mention as far as I know. Growing up playing Battletech I always said goss, but found out I was wrong around high school age and felt silly.

Yep, I much prefer 3rd person view.

I always pronounced it gawss in my head, is that wrong? I don’t know that I’ve ever said it out loud.

3rd person view feels wrong, because it wasn’t viable in Tie-fighter and Freespace. But sure, whatever floats your boat.

I always thought it was Gauss, rhymes with sauce

I guess it’s good that the game lets you play how you want, but I’m gonna be honest, playing a game like this in 3rd person is just weird.

TimJames must be a qt3 algorithm, designed to increase user engagement and post count.

Any news on whether they plan to release mod tools? Would love to see BSG, Robotech, Macross, Star Wars, Star Trek, Wing Commander, The Last Starfighter (“We die.”), Firefly, etc, mods. Alongside custom campaigns in the same world, of course.

Just imagine Nexusmods in a year if this happens. It’s given me a partial chubby.

I would love to build a custom ship with the mod tools!

TIE Defender, straight up.

I always thought that Gauss is from Physics/Maths as in “gaussian distribution”. So I always pronounced it like my Physics teacher pronounced it. As in "gaw"tian.

Travis can correct me if I’m wrong or if this changed, but I recall him saying modding would be coming down the line.

That ship was practically cheat mode.

Yup. Mod tools as soon as I can get to them, ideally while console versions are doing cert-style-stuff.
Already built with modding in mind, including support for campaign-style mods.

Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss (/ɡaʊs/; German: Gauß [ˈkaɐ̯l ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈɡaʊs] (About this soundlisten);[1][2] Latin: Carolus Fridericus Gauss ; (30 April 1777 – 23 February 1855) was a German mathematician and physicist who made significant contributions to many fields in mathematics and sciences.[3] Sometimes referred to as the Princeps mathematicorum [4] (Latin for “the foremost of mathematicians”) and “the greatest mathematician since antiquity”, Gauss had an exceptional influence in many fields of mathematics and science, and is ranked among history’s most influential mathematicians.[5]

The Gauss gun is named after this man, therefore the pronunciation is as it would be here.(About this soundlisten)
So I had it wrong

Told you we should have hacked the time servers.

One of my favourite mathematician stories involves Gauss

“When Gauss was eight years old, he and his classmates were asked by their teacher to find the sum of the integers from 1 to 100. The children began laboriously to calculate on their slates. All of them (except Gauss) began 1+2=3, 3+3=6, 6+4=10… Gauss noticed that the integers 1, 2, 3,…, 99, 100 can be placed in pairs as follows: (1, 100), (2, 99), (3, 98), …, (50, 51). There are exactly 50 such pairs and the sum of the integers in each pair is 101. Hence, the desired sum is the same as 50 times 101, which is 5050. Gauss wrote this number on his slate and handed it to the teacher. The whole process took him only seconds.”

Math is awesome.
