The ‘news’ is that if an Xbox port comes at all, it’ll be last. Luckily, I got a used PS4 Pro a month or so back, mostly for this game, so I’m set! Come on, Travis, give us a date!

Still waiting for the ps4 port!

Bought! That introductory video on EGS sold me. $10 off coupon doesn’t hurt either.

Enjoy!

I am tempted to grab this with the coupon also, but a) my poor backlog, b) I liked but never really loved the first Rebel Galaxy (after a while it felt repetitive), c) I suck at pew pew, and d) did I mention my backlog?

So, I’m on the fence.

This is better than the first RG, and auto-pursuit will definitely help.

That’s a very subjective thing. It’s sufficiently different than the first RG in terms of gameplay that some will find it better and some will find it worse. I personally enjoyed it and thought it was a good game but vastly preferred the original RG.

Interesting, how so?

I liked both games, but never bothered finishing either. I don’t know which of the two I would prefer, except maybe neither? These kinds of games tend to be so grindy I just stop when I’ve had my fill and move on. I think I would vastly prefer a mission-based game – something like Wing Commander or TIE Fighter, so a campaign that consists of a string of scenarios – over an “open world” one, like Rebel Galaxy and its sequel, that relies so much on grinding and spending time going from A to B.

Right, that was my main problem with RG:O. The dogfighting felt great but there wasn’t anything driving me to keep playing. I don’t want to play Privateer, I want to play Wing Commander.

@tbaldree could make a single player wartime expac before squadron 42 ever releases.

Ps everyone needs to own a copy of this. Glad it’s in EGS’s top 20 bestsellers during this sale.

Yeah I consider RG and RGO as two very different games. Mainly due to the actual difference in the fighting. RG is broadside battles. RGO is dogfighting. Big difference. In my mind, apples and oranges.

And sugarplums dancing in my head. YMMV

Mission question: got a mission called warning shot, says use emp javelin, was supposedly put in my cargo hold, when I go to meet escort they tell me to go back and get it installed

That’s where I’m stumped, I see no option to install this on my ship?!

Yes, this. I prefer the superior situational awareness of RG and the slightly less frenetic pace. Also it has a better feeling of progression from tiny little starting ship to massive late game capital craft. RGO ends like it starts out, a dogfighting game. It doesn’t much feel different in end game vs early game.

Land and go to the shipyard.

Must be going to the wrong place, I could swear there is no shipyard at the casino where Orzu is that gave this mission to me.

Any planet/base with one will do.

Thanks man, off to find me a base with a shipyard next!

At a shipyard, still can’t figure it out. No idea what I’m missing here, this is a mission design that baffles me, and has exhausted my patience.

It’s not a shipyard - it’s an equipment bay,and they’re everywhere. It’s in your surplus. You just have to install it in a secondary hard point like any other missile weapon. Select a missile hardpoint and you’ll see it right there to install.

Travis, merry Christmas dude! Do tell us, did the game make a zillion dollars? Are you up to your ears in hookers and blow? Because you sure deserve it with this one imo.

Not trying to be dense here, but I’m staring at the screen showing me the following:

equipment bay - weapons - hardpoint A,B,C - utility laser, combat laser, minitorp launcher, mass driver, tracer, gauss gun, mining laser, plasma launcher, ion blaster, trion accelerator, auto-cannon, photon cannon, tachyon gun.

Lots of gun choices, none of them an emp javelin, and I can do this same list for defense and components with same result - no emp javelin.

So when you say it’s in my surplus, I’ve no idea what you’re referring to, because when I go to the equipment bay and pick every single freaking option I can install on this tub, none of them is an emp javelin, even though the asshat I’m supposed to run support for using this tells me to go back and install it, I see no way to do that.

You know what I find funniest of all, this weapon besides being stupidly hard to hit a ship with according to everything I’ve read, is a missile unless all the descriptions of it are inaccurate, so like WTF would this not be a load out option for the missile launcher?

Edit: btw, i’ve got no surplus, my guess maybe I sold it w/o knowing what it was, I get in the habit of quickly selling stuff off to empty the hold. You shouldn’t be able to sell a quest mandatory item.

Net it out: I’ve seen the core game loop of this, it’s fun, but this game is a grinder. It needed missions. Putting this one on the shelf and moving on, my time would be much better spent diving into Outer Wilds.
