Oh definitely, and I’m not saying this is what I want RG(O) to be: I went into this with my eyes open. It was just to clarify that I feel that, personally, after years of playing (and rather burning out on) open world games, I’d prefer a more linear space game to an open world one. ;-)
Wait, you’re saying the EMP mission isn’t a story-gating one? Good to know. I totally thought it was.
Nope, Yellow missions are mainline. Green are sides that don’t gate mainline at all.
A random aside about this game. It feels in some ways like this and Outer Worlds are almost “first cousins”. Obviously the tone and setting have similarities, but even the graphics and art style look like they could have been made by the same people.
They are both obviously directly inspired by Firefly

I was finally able to pick this up today. Such a beautiful, fun game.
I’ve been putting more time into this over the last couple of days. Looted a gatling cannon from a random enemy (I think). It looks awesome, though the range and projectile speed don’t match my other weapons.
So I’d like to find more of them. My understanding is that they mainly drop as loot from pirate lords, but that leads to a problem. When I enter a system with the status ‘pirate lord sighted’ I go to a station bar and pay the bartender for bounty information. The problem is that when I do this, about half the time I don’t get a waypoint marker for the pirate lord. Is this working as intended?
Still hoping for some story DLC…

First mission I took was a patrol. First place I stopped was an ambush and instant death. I must be doing something wrong?!
It’s an open world and ships are dynamically doing stuff so you can run into bad stuff™ - I don’t know if you stopped for a distress signal or not.
Juno usually verbalizes if it’s bad odds, and then it’s in your best interests to run in the early game…
You can also talk your way out. Use your shipboard comm radio and ask people to leave you alone if it’s rough.

This works most of the time. Use it well.
Also note that each ship you try it with is a fresh ‘chance’ for an escape.
Also, dropping cargo through comm choices increases all odds they’ll leave you alone - so you can carry a little cheap stuff in your hold just to drop it as a sweetener if you’re having a tough time for some reason.
Really though if you do the first handful of story missions, which aren’t really very difficult, you get Richter as a buddy and buddies make EVERYTHING easier.

The texas system appears to be voracious readers. Is the imports from on the commodities screen the only place to find a producer of goods?

Apparently turning and running a nano second after arriving allowed me to escape. Still a bit off putting to have to reload 5 times to finally finish a basic patrol. Hoping it gets better.
Ok, I ended up buying on Epic. My plan was to hold out for the (hopefully) eventual console release since I am not confident my machine has the horsies to provide much of an experience, but if my few bucks helps tip the needle toward more platforms, even in the teeniest of ticks, that’s cool too.

I’ll pick it up again on the switch. Just got my jump drive so I could complete a quest. Ran into some religious nuts on the way.
The game has pretty low system specs. Even recommended aren’t much.

Question about patrol/sweep missions: If you get to a point and it is seeded with mines, do you need to clear them for the mission, or is that just what the clean up missions are for? I’ve been clearing them when I see them, but don’t know if it is required.
Not required. You can use your scanner and it will highlight anything you have to kill -

Did we know this was coming to Xbox One? Last I’d heard the console release was limited to PS4 and Switch. Looks like things have changed:
I will be playing afterall!
