I enjoyed my time in RGO, but I didn’t finish it. The first one, OTOH, I finished three times and may play it again soon.

Yeah, it wasn’t the game I wanted. It’s privateer, not wing commander. I did put in 11 hours though, got my money’s worth.
DID YOU GET TO THE BELUGA SON?
If you want Wing Commander go play Hypergate or Arvoch Alliance or Wing Commander Saga or…
Then you clearly didn’t, because you’d know.

Can only be bought at Bountiful Vista in the Eureka system after completing some quests unlocking the ship dealer.
Then yes I completed that quest. Not memorable, otherwise.

If you’re challenging me to a duel then I get to pick the weapons. I’ll take the Blackgate. You can have the Beluga. :)
Fine, I’ve taken down several cap ships in a Beluga.

So I started a new RO game. I forgot how to play this. So I’m starting from the tutorial yet again. Such a great game.
And it reminds me of the battles in the Aubrey/Maturin books. Broadsides. Small ship against the bigger ones. A fantastic game. Better than the second one by far.
So true. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is in a weird place in that it’s a fine game but it would be better if it had no association with Rebel Galaxy. It’s being overshadowed in every way by its older sibling.

Back up your claims, Mr. Junkie! Why is the second game in the series the best game in the series?
Because it has more soul and charm than the first game. The first game is great, don’t get me wrong, but each ship is basically just a box with stats and guns and little else. Sure they behave differently and what not, but they don’t have, to me, the character and charm of the ships in the second game, which are far more detailed and interesting to me.
Secondly, while it’s naval combat in space, I always found it a bit clunky and never fully clicked with it. I mean it was fun, but I felt like I was fighting the game. The second game, to me at least, feels more like an extension of myself. Combat feels far, far more fluid and engaging.
Third, I feel the second game respects my time more. Sure some folks didn’t like the autopilot feature, but I loved it. Even though the systems in the second game are, overall, larger and more interesting than the first, I could zip around using AP if I was impatient, or enjoy the music on sublight if I felt like taking the time.
Overall I feel the second game is a better space combat game because of the more up-close and personal nature of the combat, the more fluid combat, the more interesting universe and the more engaging story.

Combat was great in RGO, certainly the best space combat game I’ve ever played. I wish there was some way to do the story without playing the random mission stuff and grinding, and I wish the missions were more like T/F where each one is a puzzle to be solved.
Ah, so you’re a masochist.

I did like that. I don’t know why cause it was so hard and frustrating sometimes, but I’ve yet to come across any games that made gave me the mission thrills XvT did. Not sure if it’s rose tinted glasses though.
What other game had the balls to dump you in a) an unshielded TIE and b) a minefield?
They don’t make em like they used to.
