Frustrating night of flying for me: two DCS crashes when a Liberation-generated mission tried to spawn in the enemies, and one DCS-related system lockup after I’d finished a mission and was taxiing to parking. C’est la vie.
More luck tonight after the traditional clearing of the FXO and metashaders folders.
Mission #1: Harrier strike on a FARP and a nearby factory/workshop.
I think Liberation starts Harriers in the air because the AI’s still bad at taking off, so I had to circle a bit while my escorts slowly made their way across the airfield to the active runway.
Eventually, they got airborne and caught up.
Very strong crosswind, as you can see from the deflection of the pitch ladder and CCIP fall line.
Direct hit.
Mission #2: Hornet escort. No pictures, but notably the first air to air mission I felt more or less entirely comfortable on, from beaming an incoming enemy while my AMRAAM made its way out to range, to manipulating the radar modes quickly and correctly when switching from BVR to WVR.
Asked in the Elite thread, but should ask here as well, has anyone tried the monstertech hotas table/chair mounts?
Nope, ain’t got the money for that. Said to be quite good tho.
I bet I could knock one together with the scrap 2x4 and plywood in my workshop that’s 80% of the way there.
Hadn’t seen those Monstertech mounts, but now that I know they exist, I think I will be able to give you a hands-on review (literally) within the next couple of weeks… Those look perfect for my setup!
Edit: Ordered for the Dreamatorium.
Sooo excited!
My wife, god bless her, has okayed a new card for the holidays. After much research and gnashings of teeth at nvidia greed, I settled on an RTX2070. Ima gonna overclock it. Supposedly it can almost match a 1080ti that way.
In any case a massive upgrade over my 970. Finally will be able to play in VR without lag nausea. Also, I’ll be able to get some Time Pilot movies going without being embarrassed. Hooray for upgrades! Should come in on Friday.
Of course as soon as I pulled the trigger I questioned my i5 6500, 16 GB of RAM and older 500 GB SSD. Maybe next year. Lets see if ED can pull off some optimizations first.
Holy mother of bog you lucky fucker! You are in for a treat :D
…Aand speakin of treats, the DCS store have their xmas sale on. I treated myself to the L39 and DLC campaign for like 35 bucks. Feel like learning how to fly again :D I damn near bought the spit IX, but I already have that in il2 so its pretty low on my DLC wishlist.
Viper!
yup, and tho it aint no phantom, I do have to admit, that gets me all hot n bothered :D
Movie gave me shivers. All that… and in VR.
And yes, the graphics in that movie accurately represent every single second of actual gameplay. Now I gotta go blow up a bridge to sell somebody.
Holy shit you guys, today’s update optimized the fuck outta DCS! It runs smooth as a babies’ butt now!
I will be trying it later today, I hope you’re right! Weird that they didn’t say anything about this in the patch notes?
And just when I leave for Xmas break without my DCS setup in tow… Murphy’s frigging law…
How much better is it?
Loading seems faster than it used to be, and overall I found the experience more stable (previously I used to get some weird loads where it would take 2+ minutes to even respond).
In free flight I can increase the graphics settings that yield constant 45+fps, so there definitely are optimizations in the patch. Adding a handful of other units in the world still gives me problems, though, so my uneducated guess is that the optimizations lean more on the gpu rather than the cpu side.
