How do I open doors with Tide Pods. I think this is what I’m missing from my life!
I’m sure the WW1 flyers were very familiar with the local terrain, but I’m equally sure I would get lost over and over if I had to navigate back then. Some people have ridiculous situational awareness.

Yeah, I have ZERO sense of direction. I tell people, do not give me directions in terms of “go north” tell me left and right. I would be terrible in a 3D fighting environment (I remember when I used to do a lot of flight sim reviews and spent a LOT of time in them, I was terrible at SA.)
Funny, I usually can drive right back home from wherever I am just by remembering direction. I wonder if 30 years of virtual fighters have taught me that or if this talent for spatial awareness made the fighters fun for me.
Edit: for those pining for huge bomber formations (and having powerful computers):
So I’ve begun playing 1942: Pacific Air War for the first time in ages recently and god damned I’d almost forgotten how much fun this is. It also looks amazing for 1994. It took some minor tweaking of the DOSBox config file but now it runs great. So much content too. I think only SWOTL might challenge it for the amount of sheer content it boasts.
I think my favorite moment of this morning’s stream is when I showed the fully virtual cockpit and so many in the chat just went “WOW”. Really a marvel for 1994 that I think, at the time, only one other sim was able to pull off, and that was TFX.

Yeah. Imagine 1942: PAW brought up to modern graphics and flight model standards.
I swear, if you could do the Microprose and casual Jane’s sims with modern graphics and updated controls, you could likely bring in a new generation of flight sim fans.

Truth be told, that’s what Why485 is trying to accomplish with Tiny Combat Arena. I mean it took a couple of games, Elite and Star Citizen, to spurn new devs to make space games. Hopefully TCA will inspire a new wave of fun, accessible flight sims.
In flight-sim-adjacent news (again), ground-pounders who got excited about the re-release of M1TP2 should be pretty excited about “Gunner, HEAT, PC!” Over on Steam.(on phone or would post link)
There’s a thread about it, head on over!
Well shit fire and save matches, i am in!

Oh, hey, look, the Greatest of All Time on Steam:
It’s been on GoG for a while, if you don’t have it already.
Boo, same problem I had with the GOG version. Using my joystick just spins and spins the plane.
But does it include the novel?!
Also friends, if anyone gets EAW on GOG or Steam, and finds their plane spinning and spinning like mine was, someone GOG found a solution. Delete or rename dinput.dll in the game’s directory. Worked like a charm! Yay!
Or just use an old crap joystick like the Logitech Attack 3 :)
