well they may be fixed, but the res on VR is pretty fucking low, so even a correctly drawn hud loses its fine detail. Its nigh on impossible to do BVR with a flanker because you have to move a box over small horizontal lines to lock em up. These do not always get drawn properly. They can get lost between the pixels so to say.
Yea my rig sports FFB. Pretty fucking lousy FFB too. I bought it to replace my M$ FFB pro2 when that died. May its soul rest in peace. What a great stick that was. Compared to that, the G940 stick is a piece of shit; imprecise, wobbly, crude FFB.
Update :
I spent most of last night re-trying the intercept instant action flight for the FC3 F-15C. Its tough to pick out the bombers quick enough to get a shot off to at least spoil their aim, and dogfighting the migs is a fucking headrush. I am getting better at it though now my neck is kinda sore from the weird hunched position i took to squint through the HUD to get proper shots off. I even managed to gun down a MiG! <proud as fuck>
So my neck is kinda sore and when I close my eyes I still see the screen door but FUCK what a game experience. This has me back in love head over heels with simulated flight :D

Instead of having to scrunch down, there’s some key combo that actually raises and lowers the seat. That might help.

You mean that handle thingy below the seat of my chair ? ;-)
DCS’s Su-27 advanced flight model is out, and man, is it not at all the same as the F-15. It feels like the big plane that it is, but it’s nevertheless extremely nimble. It doesn’t have the fancy American flight control system, and it does have dynamic instability, so you can feel it hunting around through the FLCS. The squirreliness takes a lot more pilot attention than the Eagle does. There’s a button for the AoA/elevator deflection limiter, so you can now pull the Cobra, and all of the Su-27’s other post-stall maneuvers. Pushing it too hard puts you into a nasty inverted flat spin, which has killed me more times than anything else.
Landing was surprisingly smooth, especially after the MiG-21. The Flanker floats down to the runway real nice, and I put it down for what’s probably one of my top ten simulated landings of all time. New life for one of my favorite planes.

I found the Sue incredibly hard to fly well. I keep bobbing up and down or rolling inverted when I dont focs on keepig her straight. Perhaps I should fiddle with my joystick curves a bit more, because this thing will not fly straight for me as it is. I need to tell that huge soviet chunk of a plane to straighten up and fly right!
Now that 777 Studios has released IL-2, they’re returning to Rise of Flight for a few more things.
Summary: they’re adding the ILya Muromets to RoF instead of making it a standalone product. $20 preorder. There is a new map but I don’t see that on the preorder page, so maybe it’s free. The free-to-play edition gets a new plane and they’re also adding mouse control to attract new customers. They’re going to do another patch with one last round of flight model changes. New forum software too. Full details.
I think I’ll skip the bomber since I’ve barely used the other two. I’ve scheduled one last round with this game to enjoy the last few planes in my stable, some of which are classics, so I’m looking forward to the “final” patch.

DCS 2.0 is looking really, really good.
All that looking in the wrong direction really freaked me out.
It looks super-pretty. Now they just need to release it.
I’m looking forward to a supersonic run down the Vegas strip in the MiG-21. Very 1980s action movie.
“Pre-alpha” – and Nevada map has been promised for YEARS
Should be called “DCS 2018” and will run a DX11 engine at that time.

Have you read the story of the nevada map? It was a 3rd party project but they dropped out, leaving ED with an unfinished, but promised to the A-10C early access buyers project. Turned out the reason it didnt get done was severe engine limitations. The map just could not be done properly in the DCS engine. So they upgrade the engine. And now the map is getting finished. More maps are coming as well, such as the straight of Hormuz which should be fun.
I hope the 2.0 version will play nicer with the oculus. Did you dig the sense of altitute as the dude zooms up in that video? Fuck yea baby!
I dug my nails into my chair as he zoomed by power lines 20 meters below while looking behind him. :)
Related: one of the weirdest things about jet sims is how quiet everything is.

Because of the isolation, forward placement of the cockpit, and the fact that you’re wearing a helmet with built in speakers, jet fighters are surprisingly quiet in the cockpit. When I flew in the F-15D, what dominated my hearing was the pilot’s heavy breathing. And let me tell you, when we were pulling Gs and I was getting more and more nauseated, hearing the guy in front breathing harder and harder wasn’t making it any easier not to vomit…
You totally needed that leg-mounted Walkman like in Iron Eagle dude.

What is the di-dah di-dah di-dah di-dah di-dah sound you hear sometimes?

I did not. But I spent 75% of the flight on the edge of vomiting. If I had it to do again, I’d have just gotten it (literally) out of my system and enjoyed the rest of the flight even more.
Then again, we flew formation with a guy from the local TV station in the back seat of the other F-15D, and when we were walking away from the planes afterwards, he said “We pulled 6.9 Gs!” in that TV guy kind of tone. So I had to reply “So did we, on the way to 7.8Gs.” Then I said “At least I didn’t throw up” and he just replied, in a still queasy kind of tone, “Huh.” So, it was worth it.

either it is the jet’s onboard computer enjoying itself and going all jazz-hands and singing di-dah di-dah like the happy little murder robot it is or it is the low altitude warning that tells the pilot he is going below a pre-set hard deck altitude.
DennyA you lucky lucky fuck. I am beyond green in envy of you. What did you do to earn that ride?

Ah. Thanks. I don’t know much about jets.
