Oh hell yea!!

Multiplayer Multicrew capability. Fly together as RIO and Pilot!

That sounds pretty cool! Have they done that before?

Not yet, but it’s a core engine feature for maybe possibly this year sometime. (Eagle Dynamics say they want to do it this year, but I have negative trust in their ability to deliver on deadlines—if they announce a date I automatically assume it’s going to take longer than I previously thought.)

The ‘Cat – fricken’ finally. Maybe (maybe) a sim to finally put the long-toiling Fleet Defender to rest.

Can I be your Goose, Maverick?

;)

Seriously, I love the Tomcat. LOVE. This might actually get me to actually install and play a DCS product. ;) (I did take one look at the A-10 I own and ran away crying).

COME ON MAV, DO SOME OF THAT PILOT SHIT

I see Il-2 Sturmovik Stalingrad is 50% off on Steam this week. Is it worth it now?

It’s worth it at full price. Il-2 Stalingrad is no Il-2 1946 (nothing is), and lots of folks are upset by the War Thunder-style unlocks and whatnot, but it’s a good sim.

Does it have good single player, or should I just keep playing WOFF? (I’m guessing the latter, due to its heritage)

Single player’s good. AI’s much, much more realistic than IL2:1946. Alas, planes are harder to fly than the real planes (the Luftwaffe would have lost WW2 because only 1:20 BF-109 pilots would have ever gotten off the runway without ground-looping). But still a lot of fun. I paid something like $90 to get in early and no regrets.

Good to know, thanks!

If you bounced off the DCS warthog, the Tomcat is gonna chase you off with a dirty look from 300 yards. If all systems are simulated it is one hell of a complicated machine.

I read some real horror stories in the tomcat memorial book I got. Like how a guy got a ride in the back seat but the bird wouldn’t start properly. Pilot rattled off a bunch of cirquit breakers that needed to be popped in the back by reaching over the seat and counting the right ones by feel. Don’t pop the wrong one or the bird will truly die.
The bird flew.

In another story a pilot horrified a japanese ground crew by banging open an access panel with his fist, fiddling with the wires inside and climbing back up in order to start the big machine.

It is described as the harley of the skies. Complex. Fiddly. Bad-ass. You need to be able to get your hands dirty to get it to work consistently.

But i’m gonna learn it. even if it takes my poor middle aged brain years. Cus i feel the need. The need for speed!

As to il2 BoS, i am so fucking disapointed about them never getting oculus support in, i uninstalled it and havent looked back (yet)

Aerosoft has a high fidelity F-14 for sale for both FSX and Prepar3D and it work with VRS Simulations TacPack.

So I recently purchased a new/old stick, a classic Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 (mostly for Freespace 2). This stick is so amazing it’s spurned me to then purchase both the WOFF expansion and Battle for Britain II BECAUSE I WANT TO FLY EVERYTHING, especially if it has force feedback support. It also works great on Flight Sim X Steam Edition.

It’s weird though, I’ve no interest in flying most jet sims, just these older prop sims with dynamic campaigns.

Next up, however, I’m gonna try to get Mig Alley working. Yay!!

Where did you find the joystick, Brian?

From these guys. It was refurbished (they clean it up, replace bad parts, move the grease around, etc) so it cost a bit more, but it looks new and runs like a champ.

MiG Alley will break your heart, because of how close (and yet how so far away) it got to being a perfect sim back in '98. Rowan and DiD were both really good at that particular cock-teasing.

Oh I remember, I played the fuck out of it back in the day. The blue fog of doom never forgets, or forgives.

Hit 'em lead, pound 'em!

It’s a little thing, but I lost mine in a move eons ago, and have been looking for one ever since:
