Are you sure that RoF support is official, or is that the support added by 3rd party drivers? Don’t forget the Rise of Flight devs promised Oculus support for IL2 Battle of Stalingrad and then reneged.
"We have Rift support for our next game Battle of Stalingrad. " September 2013
“We’ll turn the compatibility on in one of the up-coming updates. Probably November”. October 2014
Then they decided it was too hard, blamed Oculus, and we’ve still got nothing.
Looking again, seems like you’re right. Third-party driver for RoF, built-in albeit poorly implemented functionality for DCS.
And yet War Thunder has fantastic full Oculus support, including menus.
I made fun of War Thunder reviewers in the RoF thread. :)
It helps to have a shitload of money or capital. Hardcore sims remain stuck in that awkward chicken or the egg problem.
So the second Wings over Flander’s Field expansion, Balance of Power, is now out. For $25, you get six new aircraft, so I’m totally snagging this. Even though I wish I had more time to play it, I have to support development of old-school sims like this one.

Guys, after literal months of on-and-off struggle, I finally got my controls correctly set up for Falcon 4 BMS. I haven’t flown the good old Viper in a combat flight sim since I was big into Allied Force, seven or eight years ago. (Latecomer, I know.)
Falcon 4/derivatives was the reason I got into switchology sims in the first place, and is still the best—not just at building a theater of war to fly in, but also at the raw switchology nowadays. BMS has mouse snapping when you’re near a button, which is so handy for hitting things while you’re flying.
I’m surprised the modern sims aren’t as good with all the switches and avionics. Even BMS doesn’t implement everything.
In terms of implementing-it-all, I’d guess that DCS and company are further down the road to completion—it’s just that BMS makes actually hitting the switches you want to hit a lot easier.
Also, it has history’s best dynamic campaign, which earns it many points in my book. I’d overwhelmingly prefer a game of Flaming Cliffs 3 complexity with a dynamic campaign to one with DCS A-10 complexity and no campaign.

Any suggestions on getting Allied Force to run on Win 8.1 64 bit? I have it installed and it launches, but with graphic glitches.
I wrote up my latest war story from Falcon 4 BMS.
I make this point there, too, but I have a hard time putting anything above Falcon 4 on my list of all-time great flight sims, because it’s a war stories generator—something that requires either other players, or a campaign sufficiently dynamic to make your experiences seem more unique. I have plenty of good stories from both Planetsides and from Arma games, lots from Falcon 4, and even a few from Rise of Flight (although it runs into the problem of feeling insufficiently dynamic). I enjoy DCS, but I don’t get nearly the same kind of kick out of it.
After a months-long detour, I should be returning to Falcon 4 in a week or two. One of the last games in my backlog.
But no stories from WOFF??
I could try, but lacking WOFF is an obstacle. :P
You need to fix that. Pronto.
Yeah, that kinda rocked me back on my heels, too. Best SP campaign and game system out there, and…
Nobody’s perfect. <.<
Despite my fondness for Rise of Flight, I’m not a huge WWI simmer. WOFF is on my list, but probably not in the near future.
Recently grabbed the A-10C during the sale that DCS World was having. This is REALLY fun! :D
Not doing too bad so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m59U3bCZzV0
Glad you’re enjoying yourself. The A-10 is a tricky beast—not in terms of flying, which is fairly easy, but in terms of full-systems employment, which is harder than I’ve had time to figure out.
In DCS news, DCS 1.5 (the new graphics engine with the Black Sea terrain) is due to be released in a couple of weeks. Not that I trust ED’s release dates, but they seem fairly sure about this one.
