I’m putting Falcon 4 to bed. It’s a delicious slow burn and surprisingly easy to play, but the campaign engine is too rickety-looking and I’m ready to get back to some close-up dogfighting in WWI.

And just as I do, BMS decides it’s almost time to put out 4.33:

Clouds! Trees! Carrier launching! Guess I’ll need to pull my HOTAS back out for a couple hours after Rise of Flight.

New WOFF expansion incoming!

Yay! I just reinstalled the entire kit and caboodle since having to reinstall Windows recently, it was kind of a bear. I mean the FAQ tells the order to install the thing, but you have the main game, a skin pack, a patch for the 1.0, a 2.0 expansion, patches for that, and two add ons, along with patches for those, it takes a spell. They’re considering a “gold” pack at some point though, it seems.

Hopefully I’ll find time to play more WOFF soon. I really love it.

Ohhh, pics from the new expansion!

It has now been released (as a torrent, available via the BMS forum), plus there’s a new 8 minute trailer detailing features to tide people over while downloading…

That’s amazing. Whoever leaked the F4 source code years ago deserves an eternal blowjob in the afterlife.

OMG IT HAS A TORNADO?!

If you want you can also purchase the (full-colour) manuals as (somewhat pricy) hardcoversoft-glued hardcopy (they’re of course free to download as a pdf)… just some images of the covers…

Again, more info to be found on the BMS forums

Finally, before I lurk again, check out the BMS youtube channel

Oh, so the “3-4 weeks from now” thing was just an in-joke?

5 manuals… The eventual goal of BMS is to make it so detailed that only 43 people will be able to fly it. :)

I just landed on a carrier at night in an F/A-18.

The new terrain looks great. I don’t know what the state of the art is, but it no longer looks like obvious low-resolution tiles repeated everywhere. It’s a huge step up even though it’s a little “noise map”-ish.

I’m glad they’re finally writing a manual for the BMS training missions. They say it’s a work in progress and it’s missing some of the nice background from the original manual. The missions themselves could also use a little tightening up – for example, the carrier takeoff mission forces you to watch an AWACS plane launch from the catapult each time. Atmospheric, but kind of annoying when I’m on my 5th or 6th try. (You have to push the stick down a bit or the engine will hit the carrier when the plane lurches upwards.)

I would’ve loved a complete high-res UI overall. When’s 4.34 coming out? :)

It doesn’t work for me—black screen after launch.

That BMS stuff looks awesome. However, in very old news, I got my stinkin’ Jane’s F-15 running! It even works with TrackIR and my X52 setup. Now I’ve got to get Falcon up again! Whoot.

Busy naming the people in my flight for the campaign. Hopefully my faves don’t get snuffed out. :P FYI, this pic is just to show that it works…yes, I’m being slaughtered by a tailgun. :P

Nice! Howdya get it working?

Mr. Rubin, shockingly enough I found a simple, step-by-step guide! That didn’t exist the last time I gave it a go. Since I still had my F-15 files (although they can be found online, too), I just followed it and had it going in about 5 minutes!

Check it out. Actually works.

Ohhhhhh that site looks grreeeeat, thank you! Sadly it looks like I’ll never get IAF to run again.

This looks kind of interesting. It can read the ACMI tapes from Falcon, plus other sims. At one point the acmi viewer in Falcon was no longer functioning. Is that still the case with BMS?

Tacview is great. I’ve used it mainly with DCS, but for DCS, it records everything you’d ever want to know.
