So it seems like there should be an option for the admin that deletes the spam to throw the thread to the bottom or mark it read for everyone. We have this issue far too often. @wumpus is there anything built-in that would help with that?
I actually think that it’s better for the topics to get bounced so everyone can see what is actually getting hit, what triggers this kind of response, and eventually put on our big boy moderator pants and take moderator action to close certain old topics if need be COUGH @stusser @telefrog

Correct. I mean, we have 8 plus year-old threads get bumped by spam fairly often.
That implies these topics should be closed by moderators.
Well, if an actual member bumps them, no issues? Really, just a way to release the bump to top if a mod deletes the spam. At that point, why do we care? We click on the bumped thread to see … Nothing for years.
The way things are around here, you have to nag the staff to get anything to happen. It’s an every-person job.

We’re looking at some new furniture items in the medium-near future. We live up on the third floor of our apartment building/condo unit/whatever. Neither of us is very physically strong, but we’re also very conscientious about COVID stuff and have had exceedingly little interaction with the outside world for the better part of 10 months.
Have any of you had experience using TaskRabbit or a similar service to hire local help with stuff like, say, taking an old couch out of your apartment? For stuff like my old desk and chair, I think we can at least get them out onto the landing just outside our door, where the stairs up from the entrance are, but I sincerely doubt my partner and I can maneuver the couch through the weird little pathway from the living room to the door to the landing, much less through the door itself.
If we hired out, we’d want the person/people to be super respectful of things like masking and social distancing, and are a little at a loss of how to manage that during the pandemic!
No experience with TaskRabbit, however I’ve had large item deliveries and have had neighbors move in within the last month. At least as far as professional movers, all wore masks. I’m not sure if the owners did so on their own, but they were outside of the house while the movers worked.
I don’t see why any mover wouldn’t honor your wishes. If needed, you could state that as part of your work request. Something like, “immunocompromised residents, mask use REQUIRED during work.”

Yeah, I mean, that’s very fair, but tbh, I have no idea how large furniture delivery from online stores works at all. We probably aren’t gonna be ordering from Rooms To Go so much as Amazon or Wayfair or whatever. Esp. with regards potential removal of old items. I recall happily that our mattress delivery did include removal of the old mattress, but that was from a local store, and was in pre-COVID times. Christ, that was like 6 years ago, hah.
FWIW, I’ve wanted to use a service like that a number of times but have not done so yet. I have some old items that are hefty and need to go away (not the bodies though, those stay in 55 gallon drums.) But the whole, “anybody can come help you,” kind of scares me a little. Especially so right now.
Right?? On the other hand, if I keep sitting on this couch, which, literally, is older than me, every night, my back is going to fold clean in half and paralyze me :(

I actually just had a great experience with Gentle Giant movers. It was a simple move (leaving behind most of my old stuff to sell/dispose of) and a short distance, but the,y were able to schedule on very short notice, were super friendly, and generally couldn’t have been easier to work with.
