Recommend me 70s movies

Oops, yes it was. Apologies.

The Last Wave!

(If we’re including non-Hollywood films, I would definitely include Ken Russell’s “The Devils”, Fassbinder’s “Ali: Fear Eats The Soul”, Wim Wenders’ “The American Friend” and every film made by Werner Herzog between 1972 and 1982. I would also recommend “Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles”, which I found pretty mesmerizing, but I fear many would find dull.)

I’ll second this. Also, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Hard to disagree. Also a major bummer.

I got poetry in me!

Oh, good point. I’m woefully ignorant of his early stuff other than Aguirre, Wrath of God, and Fitzcarraldo, despite owning the box set. I’ve ripped them all to Plex and have been meaning to go through them, but I keep getting distracted by other stuff.

Stroszek is fantastic. Easily my favorite of his works.

Logan’s Run and Soylent Green are both from the 70s, right?

A few more not mentioned :

Deliverance (1972)
Superman (1978)
Willy Wonka (1971)
Patton (1970)

Oh yeah, also Saturn 3! You always wanted to see Kirk Douglas’s naked ass, right?

Quintet!!!

Oh, that’s right @charmtrap, Altman can really suck too,

OK, the Gif promise is now over… @divedivedive

Well all righty then.

starcrash

Capricorn one is both a comedy and a thriller. I laughed so much during this movie. The writers were spot on.

With Sci-Fi alone, you’ve got a treasure-trove in the 70s.

Star Wars of course

Alien (79)
Omega Man (71)
A Boy & His Dog (75)
Andromeda Strain (71)
Silent Running (71)
Westworld (73)
Black Hole (79)
Most of the classic Planet of the Apes movies
Dark Star (74)
Damnation Alley (77)
Wizards (77)
Time After Time (79)
Body Snatchers (78)

Then I guess there’s Zardoz, the Buck Rogers remake, ST: The Motion Picture…

Outside the sci-fi realm, a couple that I don’t think were mentioned above:

Animal House (78)
Deer Hunter (78)

Sci Fi…did anyone mention Soylent Green?

Edward G, Robinson is a transcendent angel.

Another Sci Fi. The original Rollerball:

Ooh, good call!

I’ll add Death Race 2000 and Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Nice thread! Has anyone mentioned The Conversation yet?

Man, I love that movie. Real fucking head trip though.

We Need to Have a Conversation about The Conversation.

And then, We Need to Talk about We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Sorry for any redundancies. I’m starting with the obvious stuff, mostly.
Most of the movies on this list I would describe as essential viewing.

I bold the ones that are in my mind completely indispensible viewing.

And yeah, I’ve left off Blazing Saddles. I still haven’t seen it. Mea culpa. It’s on my list!
