My copy of Space Alert finally arrived at my FLGS, hopefully I can wrangle getting 4 other people together to try it out this weekend.

I think this is up to date, around 50 and 20 or so expansions.

And isn’t that within a relatively short time frame, LK? Am I remembering right that you only got into boardgames in the past couple of years? It’s great that you’ve dived in so deep.

I saw a prototype of The Ares Project being demoed by the designers (a father/son team) at ConnCon back in March, and talked to a guy who participated in the demo who said he liked it a lot.

Default rules. I just inject as much story as I can into it and the family enjoys it win or lose (though they tend to win).

I own hundreds of board games (mainly FFG and GMT) and have no one to play with. If you live in or near Harrisonburg, VA (or know someone who does) send me a PM and see if we can arrange to play something. I’m “ioticus” on BGG and have my collection listed.

Try meetup.com to find other board gamers in your area.

I tried that. I did find a few people in my area on BGG but they turned out not to be as dedicated as I am. They may play a game or two but then start using the “I’m too busy” excuse and I never hear from them again. I guess I have to move to a big city to find a game group.

Surprisingly, some larger cities are pretty dead as well. I live in Boston, and the Boston Boardgame Meetup group didn’t last very long.

2007-2008 was probably around when I got interested, but I forget exactly. I enjoy the collecting (not in a monetary sense, just in a having the game to take apart at home way) and thinking about aspect almost as much as actually playing them, and it’s a really inexpensive hobby that pays huge dividends at good boardgame events or casual gatherings that end up with a game or two.

Really, the only sci fi title recently that I was a bit disappointed by was Battleship Galaxies, but so far the the theme is delivering a lot of great hits.

Dude! A bunch of us meet regularly to play boardgames. Join the cool crowd.

Same thing here in NYC. The New York City meetup was doing fine until the gaming store we were using closed down and we couldn’t really find a stable home (Caveat: That was about two years ago, and the group might have settled down). In the mean time, I found a stable gaming group in my neighborhood (five core members and about seven to eight that periodically come out), so my collection is still getting a workout.

Holy crap do you have games!

In terms of people to game with, what do you expect from somebody you meet up with? How many hours do you spend on a game and what kind of setting do you game in?

My only rules are no eating or smoking at the game table. I keep a supply of bottled water for anyone who gets thirsty. I have a large game room with several card tables and another large table. I’m not very competitive and play for fun. Most of my life has been spent playing by myself, which I don’t find very satisfying. I can play for short periods or for many hours at a time. It is most convenient for me to start at 7 PM, but can start earlier if necessary. If a game is not finished I can leave it set up to continue later. I accept anyone who wants to game. I’m not picky in that regard.

Whateves dude, Burlington, VT is def the chiilest game posse (despite only having one game and 3, sometimes 4, members). Just move to VT ioticus.

ioticus,
435! That sir, is impressive.
I’m at 120 (not including expansions) and I’ve been going through my collection trying to cull the herd of about 40 games.

I’m still struggling to get
Greed
Luna
Tribune expansion
Merchants of the Middle Ages
to the table.

Of course I purchased a bunch of new games in the meantime ;)

Olympus
Belfort
Fortune & Glory (I’m sure it’s crap but it’s all I have till Thrilling Tales of Adventure gets made)
Grimoire
Resistance
Game of Thrones LCG

This was delivered today:

8 pages of rules, including the contents breakdown and a FAQ. Then there are a few reference cards, the pieces and a very nice map of Ankh-Morpork, as well as 2 stacks of cards with very nice art. Looks like it should be easy to learn and, hopefully, fun to play (especially since the idea is partly to cause mischief in territories controlled by your opponents).

Looking forward to trying it out.

I hope the mechanics live up to the theme. When do you think you’ll get a play in?

Once you’ve framed and hung that board where are you supposed to play the game?

You could get this image made into a poster…

So do I. I’m hoping to play a 2 player game with my wife tonight and a 4 player game with the kids over the week-end. We’ll see how it does.

I’ve got to say the board is indeed nearly pretty enough to frame. :)
