Crap, I bought it when it was down to $20. Wonder if they’ll discount the chapter packs, as all my old AGOT cards had to be thrown out due to water damage.
EDIT: I went to cancel my original order and couldn’t, but it seems two core sets are the way to go, so I got another one at the lower price.

Yes but that altered board is still completely playable, it’s just become your own version of the game.
Looking for a recommendation on a RPG gateway game to hook my 11-year old daughter (and perhaps even my wife) onto some light roleplaying. I did buy and try with the daughter Castle Ravenloft, but it didn’t click for her, I believe because of the dark setting.
So, any Castle Ravenloft-style cooperative adventure games out there with a less macabre setting?
Knizia’s LotR coop game, or a real RPG that isn’t crunchy like Mouse Guard or The Supercrew.

Defenders of the Realm comes to mind if only because it’s Fantasy Coop…and when my nephew and I played it last year, he enjoyed it well enough. But it doesn’t necessarily convey any sense of roleplaying unless you try to add that feel yourself.
If you choose to play cooperatively instead of competitively, then Prophecy might be a good choice – my nephew has preferred that game over most others when we work together to take down all the monsters. The same approach could be taken with Runebound as well.
All three look like they might work, I appreciate the suggestions, as does Santa.
Yeah, I get that. It doesn’t turn me off the game completely, just a reflexive reluctance to making that kind of irrevocable change to my game board that gives me pause.
You might consider the soon-to-hit-stores Dungeon Run. It’s a cooperative game until someone kills the boss and recovers the Summoning Stone. The heroes then turn on each other, since the hero who’s able to exit the dungeon with the Summoning Stone wins! It’s published by Plaid Hat Games, who’s also published Summoner Wars.

Amazon is on fire! Bring a little Cthulhu cheer for the holidays with: Miskatonic Horror on sale for $19.99 (more than $12 cheaper than CSI) and Lurker at the Threshold for $12.99 ($5 cheaper)!
Too bad I already own them or I’d be on them like hotcakes.
So, I’ve had a real craving for a good boardgame lately, something war themed, and coincidentally ran into a post on RPS about what I might just be looking for. Was wondering if anyone has played it and can comment?
Of those I would give the edge Prophecy, since the mechanics are cleaner and the theme is more fairy tale than serious fantasy. Plus it has a sense of humor, and funny cards like the Lucky Clover, which says that having it will make you more lucky for the rest of the game, but has no actual in-game effect.

For those of you with little 'uns, Castle Panic is on sale at Amazon for $15.99. That’s a great price for a fun game that goes over really well with families. Here’s the BGG entry for more information.

I’d been curious abotu that. Is it quite fun? Replayable? Would you mind writing a little blurb about it and how your family enjoys it?
Throw in the Gollum expansion for another $7 and the shipping is free…it’s what I ended up doing. I’m sooo weak against all these holiday sales.

Pretty slick. Picked up another copy of the core for myself, since a lot of the cards are worth having multiple copies of.
Yep…color me a sap too, but this does look like a bundle of fun for 27 bucks. Also snagged a copy of Arkham Horror: Kingsport Horror for $25 the other day since it was the last board expansion I was missing. Miskatonic was a great deal too, but I thibk it’s gonna have to wait.

It gets a thumbs up from me! For a more in-depth review, I’ll turn it over to Scott Nicholson, who does an excellent job of summarizing play.
