Coolstuffinc just confirmed: War of the Ring second edition just shipped. Estimated arrival for dec 16.
This one will be from Santa, but I can’t wait to try it out with my eldest son.
Anybody else getting this one?

I am, but I already have a First Edition along with the expansion. So I’m not really sure why I’m getting the Second Edition, other than: (a) because the game is just that freaking awesome; and (b) I may break it out to play with the kids, and it seems like it will be easier to do with just having one consolidated set with cleaned up rules, cards, etc.
I can always go back to the First Edition if they harmed the game in the transition to Second Edition.
I’m also getting Eclipse and the complete Yomi from them. Thinking about playing Yomi with the kids as well - I could really imagine impromptu Yomi battles being fun.

I am. I’ve been waiting for this for YEARS. I hope all the big distributors have a ton to ship out right away, but no word from funagain on my pre-order. Anyone know why the expansion “Battles of the Third Age” are sold out everywhere? I’d thought they were keeping that in print?
IIRC, 2nd edition WotR incorporates all the base game fixes the expansion provides, but doesn’t have the little battles that the expansion provided, so unless you really want those, having the exp isn’t such a big deal.

Thanks! Feel much better about missing out on that :)
Do you guys play Talisman cooperatively?
I would recommend Prophecy, which is basically Talisman with a little less crazy random chance.

Eclipse is shipping to preorders from CSI, if anyone cares…

How did everyone get so psyched on Eclipse? Essen reports? Slipped under my radar so far and it wasn’t obvious from the BGG page.

Essen reports plus BGG.Con. I played it twice there & loved it. It’s the “fun” of a decent 4X space empire game with a dash of Through The Ages but with a streamlined simplicity that makes it easy to learn/play. It looks more complicated than it is, but has a ton of choices that makes it fun :)
I’ve played the Ravenloft D&D game with my boys (6 and 9) a few times, and it worked out well. The rules are pretty simple, and with the different scenarios, I was able to “DM” the experience up a bit and tell more of a story, even though I was also playing a character.
I just posted these three deals on BGG, so I thought I’d share them with my Qt3 mates:
Runewars on Amazon for $54.99 with free shipping
For comparison, CSI is offering it for $67.99 with free shipping with $100 order.
Civilization Fame and Fortune Expansion on Amazon for $22.99 with free shipping with Prime
Offered for same price by CSI, but with free shipping with $100 order.
Chaos in the Old World on Amazon for $34.99 with free shipping
For comparison, CSI is offering it for $38.99 with free shipping with $100 order.
Also, another BGG member beat me to the punch on this fourth deal:
Gears of War: The Board Game on Amazon for $39.99 with free shipping
For comparison, CSI is offering it for $45.99 with free shipping with $100 order.

I really need to sell my copy of War of the Ring (the 2004 edition). It’ll never get played :(
I just played a Ravenloft fan-made solo scenario called Hounded and it was tremendous fun. You basically come up from the crypt and have to run through the cemetery and get back to the town before wolves, monsters and a vampire get you. I was nailed for good just at the town’s border, so it was very well balanced.
Mike O’Malley, this scenario could be adapted for multiple players by extending the distance between the crypt and the town, so you could play this with both your boys if you pick it up.

I love board games, monopoly in particular. the simplest games are the most fun :)
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.

I’m an excellent driver. I’m not wearing my underwear.
Thanks! I was unable to resist. Watch me get a copy in the secret santa exchange.
PM sent, thanks!
I’ll take a look at Prophecy, thanks. We play Talisman more or less as a race to the center; there’s a bit of back-and-forth, but we’re not focused on eliminating or seriously handicapping each other. We tried that, but old age and treachery does indeed overcome youth and beauty, and youth and beauty can pout like nobody’s business.
I read about this on BGG, I’ll definitely look into it, thanks.
This is a good angle on it. It’s a bit of a toss-up between this and Ashardalon, as they seem like the same core game with different dressing. Are they that similar? Thanks for the recommendation.
They are basically the same game. There is also a newer one, Legend of Drizt, I think it is called. If you want to get one, just see which setting appeals to you the most, as well as which is cheapest.
