My group really doesn’t care for RuneWars. Everyone always wonders why the hero portion of the game is so detached from the military one. It’s very much like playing 2 simultaneous games. Also, the rules are on the heavy side. Some people love it though.

Just got a new batch of games.
I love how, without fail, every inlay ever made disintegrates once I start sleeving my cards. Seriously, couldn’t these people just expand the trays with a millimeter or two? Now I have to remove everything and come up with my own patent for storing this stuff. Bleh.
I just saw over at BGG that Amazon has some nice sales. Chaos in the Old World for $28, LotR LCG expansion packs for $6-$7, Blood Bowl Team Manager for $17 (right after I bought it from MiniatureMarket for more than that). Too lazy to link them all, but keep an eye on the BGG Hot Deals thread as Amazon has been marking down a lot of FFG stuff lately and it’s great if you have Prime.
EDIT: Here’s a link to that thread: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/forum/10/boardgamegeek/hot-deals
sigh I just bought all the Mirkwood stuff and now they put it on sale. Oh well, I guess that’s just how the christmas cookie crumbles.
Amazon will refund if they drop prices right after you buy from them. You just need to ask - it isn’t automatic. I’ll be doing that for my CitOW purchase.
Truth be told I would only get about 8 bucks back since I bought most of it at a local game shop since the AP’s were not very well discounted on Amazon.
Oh well, at least I am supporting a local business (that looks at me like I obviously don’t belong every time I go in, and are just nice enough to make the sale).
Wow, Amazon is really starting to be a serious competitor to online board game shops like CSI.
So glad I waited on buying the LOTR LCG packs…that extra $10 I save can go towards another one now. :D
Curse you and your patience Neph!

I had bought it when it first came out, played it maybe 4 times, and am looking to sell my copy. It’s too heavy, disjointed, and fiddly for the type of game it’s trying to be. I think Starcraft implements the building, resources, hidden orders, and combat better across the board, and I have no reason to own both games.
It’s like Shadows Over Camelot if you also own BS:G - some people really like Shadows, but I can’t imagine why I’d ever play it over the other if I had both.

Just received from Europe the English version of Ora et Labora by Uwe Rosenberg, same guy that did Agricola and LeHavre. This one is a real winner, a lot of interesting choices. A lot of stuff though, but I got a tackle box from Sports Chalet and now it’s pretty easy to clean up and put away.
It takes between 2 1/2 and three hours but every time I’ve played, the time doesn’t seem that long, I swear. Didn’t to the other players I played with yesterday either. It’s very engaging and even when it’s not your turn you are looking around to see what you can do next. It also doesn’t suffer as much from the ‘damn you took that space’ syndrome of Agricola and LeHavre because at least so far there appear to be a lot of optimal paths to victory. I’m assuming that won’t hold up but it’s fun now.
It’ll be in the US at the beginning of January. I passed on an available copy of Antiquity and decided to use the money to get this early. I have to say I’m glad I did as I’ve played it four times since Tuesday with another couple of times planned for this weekend. There’s no way I could have gotten Antiquity to the table that much.

Eclipse was a lot of fun last night (only 2 players). I’ll try to post up a little AAR later today when I have some time. Summary version: Awesome game, buy immediately.
I love Agricola, I need to check this game out when it’s available in Canada.
I just caved and fought a stack of stuff from Cardhaus. I’ve been trying to cut back but…
I just looked at their site, and it looked like they have Eclipse in stock, so I threw it, Risk: Legacy, and the big Mansions of Madness expansion in my cart and hit go. They’re just up the road from me, so I’m driving up at noon to pick my loot up. They’d better have that Eclipse copy…
Ugh! I just ordered a copy of Rune Wars last night. I am a big Starcraft fan so your criticism cuts like a knife. Please let your Shadows to BSG analogy be hyperbolic.
I have found that FFG does a great job improving their big box games with their expansions, so I’ll hang my hopes on Banners of War.
Does LOTR: The Card Game come with two copies of each card, so that two people can sorta share the game, each person taking a full deck to play solo with, and then, when they get together, a full deck each to coop with?

Not quite. While there are 3 copies of each card for most of the player cards, the quest cards and encounter deck are structured in a way that they can’t be separated.

The number of copies of each card varies, but it does include four preconstructed decks. In theory, this will allow up to four players to play with only the base set, but the prebuilt decks aren’t really good enough to handle the more difficult scenarios. I do think you could get a decent amount of fun with only the base game and two players, though. Perhaps you might use two of the prebuilt decks for the easiest scenario, and then combine two decks and remove some of the weaker cards for the other two scenarios.
However, there is an encounter deck that provides opposition in the game, and there’s only one copy of that. It wouldn’t really be possible for two people to play solo simultaneously, or in different locations, because some subset of the encounter cards are used in all the included scenarios, and therefore would only be available for one game at any given time.
That sounds pretty sweet. Agricola is a great game, but the “oops, can’t build Fences or a House, someone else is doing it – damnit no kids either, the Sex Room is in use!” effect always rubbed me wrong.
Has anyone picked up a copy of Super Dungeon Explore yet? I think the game looks great, but I am kinda worried that miniatures assembly might be too much for me. Any advice as to how much of a bitch that really is?
