Just got Virgin Queen and holy crap this is one hefty game.

Well it appears our Through The Ages game has stalled due to an inactive player, so now might be a good time to once again canvas for other interested QT3 players?
I missed the call the first time around. I love TtA, and I just signed up.
Edit: My name over there is also Funkula.
Didn’t see the edit, but I just created a game (“Quarter To The Ages”) with the password ‘QT3’. This way anyone else can feel free to join, lurkers included.
Nice work!
I play Warmachine once a week and I freaking love it. It has dominated my gaming time for the last 6 months. I play Cygnar and I face Menoth and Khador regularly. The crusader is as slow as it gets, but it is cheap and it hurts if it gets in melee with anything.
Menoth is great in general. I love the jacks and the units. But the joy of the game is that every faction is awesome and multifaceted and a blast to play. There were times when I was frustrated by Cygnar’s squishy units, but then I hired Boomhowler and his troll mercenaries and they have toughened me right up.
Thanks, though I must admit that this paint job looks a lot better “on the table” than up this close. But I am having fun painting.
I just got into Warmachine a few weeks ago, but so far I am loving it. Our local group has been super nice and the game itself is just fantastic. Honestly is was ough to choose a faction, since all of them seem great. In the end I choose Menoth mostly since I just seemed to be gravitating to them.
As for the Cygs…all I can say is BURN YOU HEATHEN DOGS!!! (as my Choir sing my Jacks to glorious victory the Harbinger rises like a burning sun of devout faith to smite the filthy unbelievers)
I like the painting aspect of the game as a hobby that keeps me interested between games. Tabletop quality is all I’m aiming for and I don’t anticipate ever going beyond that level. It frequently saddens me when Warmachine posts in the Miniatures thread get IanC bombed, not because I don’t like Ian’s work or think that he shouldn’t share it, but because it is so freaking intimidating and must deter people from ever trying the game. My favorite pictures of the models are in-game pictures that capture a moment of the game. For example, here is my warcaster Haley, about to be hacked to death by a green sword wielding Doom Reaver.

Low quality phone photos don’t hurt tabletop quality painting jobs one bit. And frequently we play games with only half of the models painted and sometimes we’ll proxy in a model for something else, but once the game starts all of that disappears as the game itself takes over.
I’m sure I have a photo hanging around showing Haley casting chain lightning through an entire unit of the Choir from just last week. I’ll be sure to share it if I find it!

Note to self: PAINT YOUR DUDES
I have such a backlog :(
My second little fanatic:

My Repenter prepares to take the field:

Sketch of one of the mercenary characters from Warmachine that I did:

Arrived in Norway today. Looks even better than its predecessor “Here I Stand”. The Spanish Armada will sail tomorrow.
Eiryss! But where is her crossbow? I see some bolts. I really like the art of Warmachine and have sketched a few Protectorate jacks. The art makes up for the disjointed storytelling they have going on, which is impossible to follow because it is split up over twenty $50 tomes and 40+ magazines.
Privateer Press has a real Steve Job’s “One more thing” vibe going with their products. They had their version of MacWorld last weekend and they were revealing new super sized colossals and gargantuans along with lots of sketches of models that will be released over the next year. I am this close to buying a Stormwall.
Damn it. I don’t even own Here I Stand yet and I figure once I do it’ll probably take a few months to convince people to play it. VQ is a long way off :(
On the bright side, I’ve got five people committed to playing a few smaller learning/practice/reminder games each of StarCraft before an all day six player game later this summer. Can’t wait to get that going. Now I just have to convince them that Here I Stand is a lot like StarCraft.
Yeah, just chalk up the crossbow to “artistic liscence” (as well as the completely redesigned armor). I have a tendancy to do that.
I agree that the way PP has split up the lore is pretty annoying, though the books really are nice. They might benefit from some illustrated novels.
The Colassals are sweet, but given that I am only playing 25 pt games right now it’s not really on my must have list right now.
Just got 1989 as well and it doesn’t have near the heft of Virgin Queen or even Twilight Struggle, though I could be wrong on the latter part…

Probably a bad idea, because its not. On the plus side, though “Here I Stand” is actually not extremely complex game mechanically. Most of the game mechanics are actually very simple - its the combination of several diverse mechanics and goals (military war, religious war, exploration) that makes it complex. That said, several of the powers have a very narrow focus on military and exploration so you can assign the tough powers (Habsburgs, Protestants, Catholics) to the more experienced players, and leave the more straightforward military powers (France, Ottomans, English) to the players with the lowest tolerance for complexity.
