Thanks for the details. At game night tonight a different group was playing it, and afterwards they all said they had a good time. That, plus your positivity have convinced me to give it another try. The problem may have just been the specific cards that we had in play for those 2 sessions.

Great to hear. Let us know how your next session goes and if the deck combos make for a different game.
Now if I could get this excited about Le Harve (or at least figure out how not to lose horribly when I play)…heh

Not much interest in Dreadball on here or on BF.
I’m totally up for it, though - I’ve pledged a fair wedge to get a ton of models and extra stuff. Part of the “problem” is that people a) know Mantic as a GW rip-off team, and b) assume Dreadball is a budget Blood Bowl remake.
It really, really isn’t; beyond the generic fantasy teams and the fact it’s a sports boardgame, everything I’ve read suggests it’s completely different to Blood Bowl or any other pseudo American Football boardgame. I’m really psyched for it.

I have the base game and the 2 expansions…sadly i just can’t seem to find much interest from local gamers in trying this. :(

I’ve got 2nd Edition Descent set up on the table. I’m still on the fence about this one. I really liked 1st Edition, and do not like a lot of the dumbing down of the 2nd Edition. But I do like the smaller, more bite sized playtimes.

I wanted to dislike Descent 2nd Edition because I too felt they dumbed it down. But after reading some glowing reviews, I picked it up. I have to say, the game is fantastic. It takes 10 minutes to set up (if that) and players have the rules down in even less time. The way they streamlined it is a thing of beauty.

I’m super excited about this because I LOVE the lore and idea of Blood Bowl, but HATE HATE HATE the unbalanced teams and dislike that the game hasn’t been modernized. It still takes too long to play the boardgame.
Now, I wish Dreadball was set in a medieval Fantasy setting instead of futuristic. I really hate the Dreadball board. :/

Anyone here play Crokinole and have a good board? It intrigues me, but it’s so damn expensive to get a half-way decent board.
I bought a board a couple of months ago and I love it. It’s been a big hit with everyone who’s played it here. $200 is a lot when you compare it to board games but it’s cheaper and takes up less space than shuffleboard, air hockey or a pool table. Not that it’s exactly a replacement for those things, but it’s a cool dexterity game that doesn’t have to take up a room and if you get a nice board they actually look pretty good hanging on the wall.

I hope it is better than the “First Blood” introductory scenario. Because I just played that, and it seemed pretty terrible.

By far the least interesting or fun scenario of all. I mean its basically “fight a dude while other dudes run away” in a single hallway.

Yes. I also had a really hard time figuring out how the heroes could ever lose it. I mean, wipe out all the goblins in round one. Then put one guy on goblin killing duty to wipe out the one reserve per turn, while the other guys beat the crap out of the ettin. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seemed pretty disappointing, particularly for a scenario that I assumed would be them putting their best foot forward (as it is the introductory and demo scenario for the game).

It’s a tutorial mission. In games like this, that’s almost always the case. It teaches new players the combat and movement systems without bogging things down. It also plays in under an hour. Heck, I think it took us less than 45 minutes to finish it.

I’m fully willing to admit I may just be so predisposed not to like it that I’m being overly critical. One thing I do like is that with fewer than five players, you don’t have to have one person controlling more than one hero (not the case with Road to Legend).
I’m debating between trying the next mission and just starting a new 1st Edition campaign.
Just a quick heads up that our latest project just launched on Kickstarter a couple of hours ago. Scientific Revolution, FTW!

Cool. My brain is spinning from all the worker placement cube games though. :)
I visited your website and was very interested in “The Next Superpower”. That looks like my kind of game!

I picked up and played the recently released X-Wing miniature game by Fantasy Flight games this weekend. I like it quite a bit so far.
It is very simple and seems to be the newest iteration of the Wings of Glory or Wings of War card/ miniature games, but using the Star Wars IP. It essentially is a game where you build a squadron balancing ship costs and upgrades to a chosen point total, then fight it out in a skirmish using selectable movement templates that are revealed (more or less) simultaneously. It moves really fast, and there is a fair amount of predicting and psych out that goes on as each player tries to get on the other’s tail.
Today we had Darth Vader in his agile Tie Advance, make a quick barrel roll to lock on to a meandering Gold Squadron Y-wing. He then proceeded to fire a pair of concussion missiles to drop the shields and damage the engines of the now limping Y-wing. Unfortunately it was still there and Vader was not the only one using the Force. The Y-wing returned with a proton torpedo shot that didn’t do much… buuut it did score a critical on the TA’s engines leaving Vader to move like a Buick for the remainder of the match. Not that the Y-wing could do much other than hobble around trying to short out a passing TIE with it’s ion turret until it was put out of its misery. Good times.
Very fun use of the liscense (unlike previous) attempts. I probably didn’t explain it too well, but below I will post a tutorial video that will paint the picture. Also I will link a free flash game that is essentially a video game version of the earlier games (Wings of War etc) which should take about two turns to realize how a simple rule set can give some brain teaser time as you try to line up shots without being shot. Anyway…
