Sweet Jesus! If this game ends up being a winner, I’ll have to bribe (heavily) my gaming group into playing it!

Tracy Baker wrote a nice session report/evaluation of the new Star Wars mini game (think Wings of War, but retooled for Star Wars; as an aside, the creator of Wings of War/Wings of Glory is pissed):

I got an amazon.com (not .ca) gift card and it turns out there are lots of things they won’t send here. Cards Against Humanity? No, it has bad words. Haggis? No, it’s a foodstuff!

I heartily recommend Xwing. I am still scratching my head over the wings of war thing as they are so ridiculously similar that I had assumed all was good on the IP pedigree front.

According to Andrea Angiolino:

I don’t own Here I Stand, only Virgin Queen. But I’d be willing to play HIS if that’s what people prefer, and if it’s ok for non-owners to use a Vassal module (not clear on that or if at least one owner makes it kosher).

I believe VASSAL.

A while back a few folks in this thread expressed interest in on of the games we were developing – The Next Superpower.

That game is now called “Tomorrow” and I just pressed the Launch button on our Kickstarter campaign.

It’s basically a 4-6 player negotiation game of global depopulation and our very own Jason McMaster did the video for the KS campaign. Thanks Jason!

It’s too perfect for me to NOT throw in.

I think it’s pretty weak of FFG to not give a tip of the hat to these guys. Sounds like royalties were pretty tiny, but to just lift out someones game system and not give any credit at all is just slimy.

Looks good- I love the premise. Take my money!

I will gladly do that. :)

This has been addressed on BGG (and other places). Too lazy to find a link, sorry. The designers of Wings are not happy, but Wings borrowed from other designs so they are not standing on the firmest of ground. In short, there are no angels here.

Looking for a board game recommendation for my wife and I to play with our 12-year old daughter, who liked Ticket to Ride, but didn’t like Carcasonne: Hunters and Gatherers or 7 Wonders. I believe the issue on the latter two games was aesthetics – they looked like ‘serious’ games – as opposed to gameplay. For that reason, something like Dominion, with realistic art, won’t work.

So in other words, a game that is bright and cheery but still has some strategic depth so I’m not bored out of my mind. Thanks.

I’ve heard Isla Dorada goes over well with families. It’s very colorful with an awesome art style, and BGG users rate it a Medium Light (2.1 weight) game.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Aesthetically I can tell right away this would work for my 12-year old, for whom farts and burps remain hilarious:

I posted a session report on that game on BGG last year if anyone is curious: Isla Dorada:Treasure & reluctant adventurers in 1934

It’s a lightweight and enjoyable little game. Though I haven’t quite managed to tempt the kids to play it again recently. They are more into games like Galaxy Trucker, Fortune and Glory and Descent these days.

Wendelius

Does Isla Dorada have a two player variant? Or is 3 the minimum?

I would suggest the following family games:

Forbidden Island

Smash Up (may be a little too much of a “boy” game though)

Miskatonic School for Girls (it’s not the best rated game on bgg, but I’m guessing a 12 year old girl would enjoy it…while still giving you some fun in the process)

Mice and Mystics (i can’t imagine a 12 year old girl NOT loving this one)

tylertoo, try King of Tokyo. Everyone will love it.
