Looks like Amazon might screw me on my second consecutive board game pre-order. My scheduled delivery date for Pathfinder is Thursday (even though it’s still listed as “Not yet shipped”) and the game’s product page now lists “This title has no yet been released.”

Yea they screwed you. Pathfinder is taunting me from my FLGS shelf as of a few days ago. If you’re near Santa Barbara, CA. ;)

Like I say, they’re still telling me 9/12 for mine. Except they pushed back the addon deck to 9/19 now.
For those who don’t frequent BGG very often, I wanted to provide a heads-up that my lottery for Lords of Waterdeep PBF Game 9 is currently open, but closes in 2 days (Friday). Enter, if you want a chance at a seat at the virtual table!
Mysterio, you’re so cool!
I decided not to enter cuz good lord, a lot of people want to play. But I thought I’d put a bug in your ear: what about game 10 featuring those who have won a game? Hall of fame game?
Sounds like an appropriate suggestion for a Game 10. I’ll keep it in mind!

I have up fighting and got the Pathfinder game. From what I’ve seen my takeaway is a boardless Descent with trickier hand management. The expansion idea and carrying a character from one adventure to another is a great hook. The nicely organized box even has a slots for your party’s individual decks, just teasing you to start the grand campaign. Plus each session is around an hour per scenario, so this is great if you don’t have time for a ‘true’ RPG but still want the experince. Paizo has a good history of Pathfinder support so I can’t wait to see the evolution, but the base set is supposed to have a lot on its own.

According to an Amazon customer on BGG, who ordered his copy on August 26, Amazon replied to his inquiry stating his new ship date is October 27. But, hey, they upgraded him to 1-day shipping, so all is forgiven, right?
Amazon’s board game pre-order system is seriously broken.
Alright, I got my copy of Castles of Burgundy. I am reminded why every time I heard good things about it and went to look it up, I immediately was turned off and then promptly forgot about it. Good lord, this is the most drab, boring looking game in existence! My opinion didn’t change much after reading the rules. BUT, I have heard too many good things, so I’m ready to jump in! This thing must be way better than it looks on paper…

Joined, thanks! Haven’t had much time at all to play board games lately so this would be nice!

The look can be a bit off-putting, especially all the knowledge tiles with their apparently random icons. I really like the game though and it works great with 2 players (wife who hates most competitive board games + me.) The dice mechanic works well if you play with folks who avoid games that involve a lot of move blocking or backstabbing.
I am and maybe I’ve been playing too much splinter cell. I just keep running from zombies and killing when I need to.
Is RC that good. It just looks so so and it’s a coop game.
Played 2 player Mage Knight coop with the Lost Legion expansion tonight. 5.5 hours of intense fantasy loot-and-conquer. (Not including teardown, which I gave up on for tonight). General Volkare, the coop antagonist added by the expansion, is crazypants. We nominally managed to defeat him in the Volkare’s Quest scenario shortly before midnight by fudging a couple of rules and adjudicating in our favor on an unclear rules reading, but that was on the easiest settings that scenario offered and was still an epic struggle. The basic issue is that you don’t fight him (although he attacks) - you fight his army. The whole thing. All at once. Any time you enter combat with him. And since attacking foes happens -after- they deal damage to you, and if you take more than a certain level of damage you lose all your cards, actually winnowing that horde down entails either: producing a ton of ranged/siege attack so you can remove them before they attack; having a shit ton of individual sources of block so you can tank most of the hits and still somehow generate enough attack to kill things; or coordinating with other players so that you all attack at once and you can divide the army between you (Volkare will attack both players, and your combats are separate from one another so you can’t tank for someone else’s attack or anything like that), though this is difficult to arrange. All while he’s (most of the time sedately) meandering his way towards the starting space where he will win the game, and periodically attacking anyone he happens to get close to.
But it’s super satisfying when you manage to take him on, weaving tapestries of destruction out of every single resource you’ve clawed your way into possessing.
I just received the inevitable e-mail from Amazon:
Despite having some of the most advanced logistics on the planet, we don’t have stock to fulfill your pre-order. But we’re doing our best, by golly, to find some!
Still wanna keep your order? If not, feel free to order from one of the many online retailers with more primitive logistics who are able to fulfill all pre-orders with additional stock remaining. Damn, those companies rock!
We look forward to you pre-ordering your next board game from us, as we have another deflating e-mail prepped and ready for delivery!
I might have embellished the content of their e-mail a tad.
my boys and I played Lords of Waterdeep with the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion. A great expansion for an already great game.
The corruption mechanic really adds planning to the whole thing, in my opinion. I had 4 corruption early in the game, but just at the last turn, I managed to get rid of the last of it, which really helped me win the game. My oldest son lost 24 points due to his corruption (ouch), which really hurt him. We would have tied if he didn’t have any.
I really liked the expansion, and what it brings to the game, though…

If you don’t like coop games, then I would avoid it. Because it’s…well…a coop game.
But for those who don’t have a dislike of the genre, it’s fantastic. One of the best…even with the bad manual and some fiddly rules.

Congrats on winning the scenario! I bought the the MK:LL expansion right when it came out but never got around to playing until a week or so ago, when we setup the same co-op scenario that it sounds like you played, Volkare’s Quest. We are playing the four player version, which only works because we’re able to keep it setup and let people take their turns when they have 5-10 spare minutes over a span of many days. We’re three turns into the second night and about to turn back en-masse to try to intercept General Volkare. I was feeling a lot less positive about our chances to beat his crazy army (14 green tokens, 8 purple dragons, 8 white) until two Altem Guardians showed up in the unit offer this turn. One player recruited one of them with a Call to Glory spell and I’m going to try to recruit the other. Unfortunately the game is on hiatus for a week and a half.

This made me giggle like a loon. Thank you.
Yup, Volkare’s Quest. Volkare’s Return looks …really intimidating.
Since it’s been a while since I placed a CSI order, and, this morning, Amazon changed my pre-order delivery date for Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords - Base Set to October 09, 2013 - October 30, 2013 (5.5 to 8.5 weeks from now…for a pre-order!), I decided to boot Amazon to the curb and place an order for it with CSI. And since I have an aversion (that’s what I choose to call it, thank you very much) to paying for shipping from CSI, I had to reach the $100 threshold (and unnecessarily exceed it) by tossing additional goodies into my cart. So, the following will soon be added to my board gaming library:
[ul]
[li]Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords - Base Set: RPG adventures with cards galore in the Pathfinder universe? Sold!
[/li][li]Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords - Character Add-On Deck: One can never have too many characters with which to adventure!
[/li][li]Yedo: Yowza, look at that board and components! They have me in a trance. But it’s gonna be tough to get it to the table with a BGG weight of 3.4. Time to pull out the full-body shoehorn!
[/li][li]Rialto: Based on the video reviews I’ve watched, I love the mechanics in this game! And with a BGG weight of only 2.6 and shorter playtime, it could serve as a stepping stone to Yedo!
[/li][li]Mascarade: I can’t begin to describe how much fun this game’s gonna be, especially with alcohol involved! It’s going to be a huge hit, guaranteed!
[/li][/ul]
And soon to receive from Amazon:
Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport: Love the base game, plus I might add it to the BGG PBF games I host. We’ll see!
I feel so dirty…
