Maybe enough for Hasbo, but not enough for Wizards of The Coast? They bought it, made some D&D figures, and cancelled it straight away :/
I’ve yet to look into Arena of the Planeswalkers, which is meant to be some kind of D&D Heroscape 2.0. Have you got any of that?

I have one of these games. I don’t like it much. Right out of the box, it feels like you only have half a game. The manual, the way everything is designed is to just keeping adding more and more of these boxes. The problem is, unlike other board games like Pathfinder, the old Heroquest, and some other games in the genre… this just feels like it’s missing something. Like it will tell you you can only take one of this type of monster or size of monster, I forget which… but there’s only one choice. In order to actually have a choice, you’d need another set. i get that they want people to buy expansions, but it left a sour taste in my mouth to feel like… something is missing the first play through.
For people who like miniatures more than I do… could be worthwhile.

I believe that’s because the wording of the manual is almost exactly the same as Heroscape, but they don’t (yet?) have all of the category of monsters etc that heroscape had, so the manual refers to things that aren’t even currently available, and might never be!
Hey board game experts, I’m a fan of all things OGRE but only recently learned about the existence of OGRE: Objective 218 - wondering if anyone has tried it, any impressions? You’re probably going to ask if I’ve played the game it’s a variant of, Battle for Hill 218, and I have not. The game is cheap and I’ll probably just roll the dice on it (ha ha, it’s a card game, get it?) but I’d still love to hear if anyone has anything to say about it.
I haven’t played the Ogre card game, but I quite like Battle for Hill 218. It’s a nice, simple game with a back and forth positioning element sort of like a simple Chess match. It’s got a supply line system that can lead to some dramatic moments. I recommend it as a great 2 player filler. In the same space as The Duke or Onitama.
That’s good to know, thank you for the info.

I just unearthed my Heroscape boxes after the move. But it seems that I’m missing about half of my hero cards. Any way to buy a full set that you know of? Ebay I guess, but I’m not an Ebay person. I have a lot of missing cards from supplemental sets. Very sad.

The only things I know of are Ebay, Boardgamegeek’s market place and posting on heroscapers. I’ve seen individual bits on ebay (UK), but it’s very expensive. So no mater what you do, expect those few bits of card to cost you a lot of money!
But as long as you have the figures and terrain, I would say you don’t need the bits of card. The cards are all fully scanned on Heroscapers, so just print them off. Aside from when you have multiple squads of the same card, you don’t even need the entire card – it’s just a picture + some numbers, so hopefully someone’s already made a spread sheet of it all?
In starting to realize in many occasions BGG market is by far the cheapest place to find most stuff, at least for the EU. Ebay tends to be bloated even further.

My 11 year old daughter has taken an interest in The Lord of the Rings so I am considering buying https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/823/lord-rings to play with her.
Can folks recommend this one or something better? She really likes Hobbits and the possibility that they may die in this game could be a bummer.

Those in my group who really enjoy The Lords of the Rings and The Harry Potter stuff find the cryptozoic deck-building games worthwhile. They’re not difficult games to play. You constantly get to look at images from the movie, and while it’s not exactly cooperative you can lose as a group. No one really dies…
I’d put in the same group with Dominion only more random and longer.

I wasn’t a fan of that one even when it came out (it was pretty dry). Haven’t played it since then, but I’m not sure time has been kind to it. Design of coop games has advanced a lot since then.
But you know what hasn’t aged a day? LOTR: Confrontation, still one of the best quick 2 player games around. 20 minutes per game, a decent amount of strategy, some bluffing, and a surprisingly good integration of the theme. (Poor Boromir).
There’s a younger version by the same designer here: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/734994/lord-rings

Oh that is a great recommendation.
Do not buy that game, it is terrible.
Welp, I was about to reply to Orald with pretty much everything you guys just said. Looks like I’m not needed here.
However, given what you said about your daughter being bummed that hobbits might die, it’s worth noting that a common outcome in Lords of the Rings: The Confrontation is Frodo ripped apart by wolves. I am not making that up.

Thank you for all the responses, very helpful. What I’m really going for is a cooperative game. Forbidden Island or Defenders of the Realm look like fun so I think I’ll get one or the other.
I appreciate your bringing this newbie along.
Are referencing LOTR: Confrontation? Care to be more specific about why? I’m always on the lookout for things I can play w/ 15-yr-old son and jsnell’s ‘one of the best quick 2-player games around’ makes it sound very intriguing.

Confrontation is a very good two player game. It fits the theme very well too. There is a PC and I think an iOS version though minus the LOTR theme that you could try perhaps or watch a video on to get the feel of the game.
It gives a Stratego feel in a sense with interesting choices.
You also might want to check out the kickstarter for Omen Reign of War a good two player card game. It is up supposedly for the last time. It is often out of print. There are YouTube videos that you can watch to learn how it plays.
This is a very good game. It plays quickly, has great artwork, has a ton of strategic choices. I actually bought two copies the last kickstarter in case I ruin one copy. If I remember correctly there is a print and play version available for $5. There is only 4 days left so take a peek.
Kickstarter:
Another good two player card game is 7 Wonders Duel.
Any of the Mystery Rummy series are good and easy to learn and fun for new gamers.
I think it is easier to transition a new gamer to Boardgames using card games. They are something everyone is a bit familiar with and not oppressive like a boardgame could be. They also tend to play fast. After some good card games I usually will bring out a boardgame.
Thanks for the ideas, will check into them. Not worried about transitioning, just trying to have a variety of options to drag him off the computer. He sometimes has friends over for Risk, and we have Dominion, SmallWorld, Carcassone, TtR that we pull out sometimes, Bought Amerigo for sale at Christmas, but haven’t tried it yet.
