I played three-player and it was a slaughter. We didn’t even get close. Bad rolls and tons of broods did us in.
Yeah, I’ve probably just been lucky so far. Definitely too soon to start changing the rules.
I’m tempted to pick up Death Angel, but it’ll end up like Race for the Galaxy: I’ll only get to play it solitaire. At least with RFtG there’s the web version. Definitely my kind of game, though.
I think it’s a lot easier to learn while playing than Race if you’ve at least set it up once before. Of course, accessibility may not have been the key variable you were concerned about.
One of my CSI orders shipped out today containing:
Earth Reborn
High Frontier + Expansion
Dixit
I’m most curious about Earth Reborn after seeing the designer (of Dungeon Twister fame) talk about it so passionately at Essen. It’s got a modular board, innovative mechanics, scenarios and missions, and enough depth that it could almost be mistaken for an RPG.
This one might find a nice place in my collection since I normally don’t like purely tactical games (like Memoir '44 and Heroscape), but did really enjoy Duel of Ages because it blends tactics and strategy.
I’ve since sold off Duel of Ages in hot anticipation for Duel of Ages 2 (which is looking amazing), so I’m hoping Earth Reborn will do the trick until then. Any thoughts?
I played Death Angel 2-player with a friend awhile ago. We found it extremely easy until the end when we got slaughtered - I think I made some dumb mistakes. We had fun but wondered about the game balance. Next time I think we’ll just play Space Hulk.
It might have been foolish of me, but I picked up High Frontier. I have some friends who I think will really like it. I’m about to start diving into the rules.
There’s so much out there I want to play now. I picked up Labyrinth to play solo and maybe 2-player if I can find someone. I’m going to try “7 Wonders” with a group this weekend. I bought “Forbidden Island” to play with my family over Christmas. I was astounded to find a copy of “Maria” in a local store lately and had to pick it up. There’s an abundance of board gaming goodness (and I’m usually into roleplaying games).
What? Link, please. Duel is one of my faves – I have everything for it.
http://worldspanner.net/disc/ under the Duel of Ages sub-forum. They’re redesigning everything and adding tons of new things. :)
It’s the theme that’s a problem. I’m a big fan of Space Hulk, but my wife and mother in law do not, do not like games about killing things.

So do I. But I’m a bit concerned about a new version coming out - getting everything for DoA at list price (or even a 30% discount) was $100-200.
I’m really not keen on spending that again, and if they have to come out with a new version, I’d really like to avoid the 7 expansion methodology they used last time (or however many it was, I forget now because we have them all bundled together in two boxes).
I’m really, really interested in finding out more about Earth Reborn, and I think I’ll have a crack at it on Friday to see if it belongs alongside Hulk and Claustrophobia.
Yeah, that’s going to be a huge obstacle, since it’s just as Aliens-ish as the full Hulk in tone and ruthlessness. Does that include abstracted assassinations like Citadels?

I might be wrong about this, but I think that they intend on including everything that was in the 7 or so expansions into the base game of the redesign.
EDIT: I think I am wrong, only 40 characters going into the “introductory set”.
At least they aren’t turning it into a blind-buy collectible miniatures game. :)
I’ve got Earth Reborn being mailed out earlier today. Crossing my fingers for it to come in the mail tomorrow (I convinced Boards and Bits to mail it to me out of their washington warehouse- I’m in Seattle). Like I said before- the theme/minis aren’t doing a lot for me, but the rules, modular board and random scenario generator look excellent. Plus the designer is already putting out tutorials/rules for 3-4 players.

My copy of Commands & Colors: Napoleonics arrived this week. I bought it mostly out of loyalty to Richard Borg, who did something very gracious for me around this time last year, and wasn’t expecting it to be much different than Commands & Colors: Ancients. I was wrong. I’ve only played it once so far, but the number and scope of the additional rules actually add quite a few twists to the game. So far I’m impressed.
The Aliens-ish tone is of course one of the things I love about Space Hulk.
No, sufficiently abstract violence doesn’t bother them. I haven’t tried Citadels out on them yet, but I’m pretty sure they’d see it for what it is, a rule preventing another player from taking an action. I have a copy of Citadels, but it hasn’t hit the table because I had other games I was more interested in introducing.
I plan on picking it up Dominion soon. Which is the best expansion? I’m looking to play with up to 6 people.
If you are looking to play with 6 people, then your expansion has been picked for you: Dominion: Intrigue. To play with 6 people, you need both Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue (or at least a second copy of Dominion).

Oh, consarn it, now I’ll have to buy it. I was pretty much thinking that I didn’t need yet another set of armies for C&C:A (I have all the expansions, and probably didn’t need most of those), but if it’s actually a different game, well.

Yeah, that’s what it looks like. I’m not particularly confident about their chosen methodology for the new release. It basically sounds like a gimped “introduction pack,” with the real meat of the game (in expansions 2-4) to come out 12-18 months apart later.
I’m not sure why these guys seem to struggle so much to just do it normally, as I think they have an absolutely great game there. I know from reading on BGG and elsewhere that the game did not heavily catch on, and part of that is due to their goofy distribution methodology.
Well, I always have a complete set of DoA. Which frankly, as far as I’m concerned, works pretty damn well in its current form. I really love the game.
