Recommend me a gametap premium game

I signed onto gametap to play Deus Ex for free. Well its going premium tomorrow, and I haven’t quite finished it yet, so I decided to pay for a month of gold (the first month is 99 cents) just to finish. I expect to be done with Deus Ex by the time the weekend is over, and I figure I might as well then play one more of their premium games.

It would have to be a relatively short game, as I don’t play that many hours in a month (and I don’t want to pay $10 for a second month). I like strategy and sim games the most, but would also dabble with more shooters and RPG’s. (and note my system is a 2006 budget system with IG - it plays Civ4, but chokes on the highest settings in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3) They have some nice choices, but I don’t want to get into a game that is story oriented that I won’t have finished after a month.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Tachyon: The Fringe. Game I play most on that thing.

thank you, I will look into it

Only one game? ONE? Geez…

OK, standouts from their list:

Action / Adventure - Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, Sam & Max, Freespace I & II (play II if you only have time for one), Pirates!, Tomb Raider Legend & Anniversary (I preferred Legend, but Anniversary emphasizes the platforming & puzzle-solving if that’s your preference), the Prince of Persia series (SoT is still the best IMHO), Silent Hill 2 & 3 (2 is better IMHO), Second Sight (not enough games with psychic powers), Just Cause, Shadowgrounds.

Strategy / Sim - Civ 4, Overlord, the HoMM series (esp. 3), Dawn of War Gold, Puzzle Quest, the Homeworld series, the Warlords Battlecry series, Startopia, Jagged Alliance 2, Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, Disciples 2, Kohan II, Space Colony, Battlestations Midway.

On the “great RPGs which might be too long for you” list there’s any of the Infinity Engine games (Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment), Sacred Gold (definitely one of the better Diablo clones), and Grandia II (one of my favorite console RPGs, though I’ve never tried the PC port). On the “good games which might not run on your rig” list, there’s Supreme Commander, Far Cry, Serious Sam II (if you like mindless FPSs), and STALKER.

If you like spacey shooters and haven’t played Freespace II, do it.

If you have played Freespace II, then play Tachyon: the Fringe.

Someone needs to do Freespace III. Or mix up Freespace and Privateer. Who owns Freespace these days anyway? Interplay owns Descent, so do they own Freespace? Or would it be Volition?

Volition doing Freespace III could be good. Saints Row in space.

Okay, maybe not good.

Reading this reminded me why I thought Gametap was the best value in gaming and worth every bit the $10 or so I paid a month. They’ll have my business again once they figure out how to include 64-bit OS.

Thanks - I’ve already played BG and PST, and I own CIV4. I am limiting it to one game, cause I really don’t expect to remain subscribed beyond a month. I might sample some of the ones you mentioned, probably starting with FreeSpace.

Can someone explain whey Kohan II would be recomended at this late date? I didn’t get into it because the single player had a brainless AI and there was pretty much non-existent multiplayer.
