Recommend me some PC games!

I am on the lookout for some good PC games to tryout to justify my PC purchase. I’m primarily looking for games that cannot be found on any of the consoles. I haven’t bought any games for the PC in the past year, and the only games I see on the horizon that I am interested in are DoW2, Empire: Total War and and Starcraft 2.

Particulary interested in more serious strategy games, but almost any genre will do.

1701 AD

Civilization 4

Audiosurf, IL-2 Sturmovik. Among others.

Well, while you did say “serious”, I am still gonna go with King’s Bounty. Because it like rules and like shit.

If you bought a good gaming PC, Medieval II is probably the best serious strategy game for showing off your new rig.

Galactic Civilizations 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, I’m not a Stardock plant, Planescape Torment (Hey, why not?)

Looking through my collection I have Sins of the solar Empire, Medieval II, and Civ 4. That said, my old rig can only run these at the lowest settings. I think the last game I bought was the gold collection for Company of heroes, which I threw out since it wouldn’t install.

I’d have to look up King’s bounty and 1701. The more serious strategy games I was thinking of was along the lines of GalCiv 2, or perhaps that civil war game Xpav and company are trying out. I never really tried them before.

If you go this route, get it via Gamestop digital download. Its only $20 when added to the cart.

Mount

and

Blade

These are my top picks and are always installed

Strategy
Gal Civ 2 with expansions
Armageddon Empires
Civ 4
Sins of a Solar Empire

Other
The Witcher
Dwarf Fortress - Free
Aquaria
Spelunky - Free
Space Rangers 2
Mount and Blade

That.

Age of Empires III + expansions.

Alpha Centauri, and the expansion. It’s worth seeking out, trust me.

Agreed with Lux. Damn shame if you missed out on Steams weekend sale a couple weeks ago, but M&B is worth normal price anyways.
Mount & Blade may suck as an overall game, but the main nitty-gritty mechanics rule.

And while it’s over a year old, Civ4 is still the top of the crop in strategy games nowadays ( as evidenced by all the other suggestions of it).

Stretching the rules a bit, Demigod is one coming up to add to the list.

I’m enjoying the latest beta release of Demigod. It’s a fun and challenging strategy game.

Yes!

How does the AI hold out though?

Is there going to be a demo for Demigod? I like the concept and I want to support Stardock and co. but I’m not so hot on the RTS’s.

Completely forgot about Demigod. I’ll have to add that to the list.

That said, the only rule was PC exclusive. I’m willing to expand my confort zone into genres I don’t normally play, like TBS wargames, RPG’s like The Witcher, whathave you.

I just would like to know what the Hive mind recommends.

whilst being a GC2 'n AE 'n DOM3 'n SR2 kinda guy, SOTS with AMOC might be what the Hive mind recommends too…
