While I really don’t “get” Lorna Shore, reading about them did let me remind myself what absolute dickheads the Encyclopedia Metallum mods are regarding band blacklisting. hur dur i hurd a breakdown and got scared band banned forevzzzz

I like Lorna quite a bit for some weird reason.

I liked CJ’s vocals, but then he was a scumbag so that sucked. New kid is decent, but I’m not a high growl fan for the most part and there is a lot of it. Still kind of like them for some reason though.

Also I love watching vocal people reactions to stuff like this.

Elizabeth is so traumatized, but still tries to figure out all the vocal techniques and it’s great.

A quick search showed me that this band has been mentioned here twice before this, but I’ll just drop this here anyway. I’m still not a big fan of Death Metal, but I’m still trying samples from time to time, and I’m really kind of digging this:

Excellent choice! That was one of my top couple albums of 2017, and I’ve come back to it repeatedly since then.

Looking forward to their new one, which is coming out in October. First single recently dropped from that:

Elizabeth is wonderful. She tries so hard to find the good in all kinds of music…and succeeds! She is one of only two people I watch reaction videos from anymore. The other is Doug Helvering. And that’s because they really get into the analysis aspect more than most others. Also, they seem like genuine folks.

Thanks for that!

I never really paid much attention to reaction videos until I saw one of hers for Devin Townsend. It has been entertaining to watch her get into metal.

Premiered just now. Probably don’t watch the video at work.

More Orbit Culture from the upcoming album.

Feels like this is mounting toward confirmed.

Aether Realm’s vocalist Jake (who’s in Christopher Bowes’ new band, Wizardthrone, and has collab’ed with him repeatedly before, and was gonna tour Europe this fall with Alestorm + Gloryhammer) has cut all ties to Chris and his bands and basically said, “Drop your statement so I can shit all over you for being a gross human being, dude.”

TBH, it’s not exactly a surprise that the dudes behind Alestorm/Gloryhammer/etc. might be a bunch of kinda gross fuckheads, but, ughhhhh, those texts are gross. Still, no 100% confirmation yet; Gloryhammer’s gone on a media blackout while they prepare statements, etc.

Oh my gosh! A unicorn-loving, woman-hating, racist, power metal joke-band.

I think it’s safe to say we’ve reached peak metal now. That’s it. Shut 'er down folks.

New Maiden is out in full today. Not a big leap from the majority of their post-Bruce-return material, and they’ve gone a little Brexity in they’re old age, but it’s still very solid.

A review of this reminded us that the post-Bruce-return/three-guitar Maiden has actually been around longer than any other incarnation.

Not sure how I feel about this.

There’s something about Maiden being as professional as they are that turns me off. I’ve seen them a couple of times, and every time I feel like I’m watching classical musicians performing a metal act.

It just never gets stupid or unprofessional enough for me.

Ah, I see you’re looking for today’s other big release, Night Flight Orchestra’s Aeromantic II, which is ALSO excellent

Holy shit! Maximum points for stupid :D

Are you familiar with The Protomen by any chance? I’d say they’re like these guys but with a slighty higher musical IQ. That they use to make albums that are also Mega Man fan fiction.

YES! Love me some Protomen

Oh yeah,

The Unleash The Archers / ÆTHER REALM / Seven Kingdoms tour got off to a rocky start thanks to border shenanigans keeping UtA from entering the US for an extra week. The very cool folks in Lords of the Trident, who were originally gonna be a local opener for one of the canceled shows, are being absolute heroes and putting on a livestreamed benefit concert on their Twitch channel tonight, giving all proceeds to AR and 7K to help them weather the canceled and rescheduled gigs. Everybody involved invested a ton of time, money, and heart into this tour, so show em some love to help get through a tough week.

Starts at 7:30pm CST with AR.

Basically hard rock / 80s metal, this has a crunchy rhythm section that totally shreds (that riff that ends the song, that starts at 3:20? that reminds me of something huge from Maiden or Slayer or something).

It’s also just fucking GOOD.

You may recognize the singer as the reincarnation of Jack Black, and the band is channelling Warrant, Def Leppard, and all those amazing 80s metal bands you pretend you don’t like.

5 minutes later holy shit Einar!

Listen to the end, they build up and drop a fucking hammer, especially Einar on vocals.
