He’s awesome. I was pretty far forward and he saw and pointed at me at The Mann last time I saw Volbeat because I had my Anthrax - Greater of Two Evils Tour shirt on. That was not a well-attended tour for Anthrax opening for Dio. He had a huge ass grin. I was happy to represent!
They’re coming to west Michigan in February, too, but it’s gonna be in the Van Andel arena, which is a pretty terrible concert venue. I’ve been to three shows in there, and the sound quality was mediocre (Metallica) to downright poor (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Wish they were doing a venue built for performances rather than sporting events. Still, if I’m back from Florida by then, I might end up going.
In other concert news, gonna see In This Moment (with Ded and Raven Black) at the end of October. And this one is at 20 Monroe Live, a smaller but much better quality venue. Last time I saw Maria and friends live was outstanding, looking forward to this one.

And I’m debating whether I want to drive over to Pontiac in November to see grown people dressed as toys play 80s pop rock. It was pretty awesome last time, nice nostalgia trip for those of us who grew up in the 80s…

I have tix for Judas Priest and Sabaton on the 50 Heavy Metal Years tour in October in Philly. Looking forward to that.

That’s really good!
“Okay, now take off the sunglasses”
“sure”
“Now the hat, gotta lose the hat and get real son!”
“okay”
“Now the wig!”
“Wig gone, let’s rock!”
“Okay, now drop the sword and sing!”
“FUCK YOU THE SWORD STAYS!”

Phil Lewis just keeps rollin’ man. Started Girl back in 1978 and hired Phil Collen who you might know as the guitarist for a small band called Def Leppard. I’m sure there are days when Tracii Guns wonders what could have been with him and Axl Rose, but there have certainly been a lot of very good days for L.A. Guns through the years. Sleazy L.A. Metal may not be popular in 2021, but I sure as hell still pay attention.
I’ll add this since it’s on the same upcoming album and is superb…

I have discovered the Metallica Blacklist compilation of 53 covers of Metallica songs, and it is good fun. Nostalgia from my misspent youth with the older stuff, and some of these bands put a pretty interesting spin on things. Some of them appear to be younger than the songs…
Must… Not… Make… Inappropriate… Joke.
Seriously though, Judas Priest is the shit. Rob Halford is the adorable gay uncle we never had.
What’s your favourite?

@TurinTur your video isn’t showing up for me.
It however, led me to find this, an instrumental version of their recent album (speaking of, Aggression Continuum is a really good FF album - best in awhile):

Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait to see JP.
He had heart surgery today and is doing well apparently.

Went to Furnace Fest here in little ol’ Birmingham Alabama where they did three stages for three days and a TON of bands. I was only able to go Sunday, but standouts live were:
Motionless in White - amazing live.
ERRA (Birmingham based and they sounded great)
Fit for a King
August Burns Red
Knocked Loose
Killswitch Engage was the big closer, but I’m just not a big fan.
I saw several more as I ran between stages Sunday, but those were the best.
I fucking love these guys and they are amazing live. Saw em on a dual-headlining tour with Northlane the night before ProgPower 2019 and they brought down the fuckin’ house.
I really don’t like Killswitch Engage. They bullied a woman riding on a guy’s shoulders into flashing the crowd when they were opening for Anthrax it was just, ugh. So absurdly gross.

Northlane’s latest album is brilliant.
I see the ERRA drummer once or twice a week at the local bar at which he bartends. Nice as can be. He thought it was cool that my old ass was out there near the front…until the haymakers and kicks opened up a pit. I slinked sideways to the periphery.
Ugh yes. I don’t like moshpits on the best of days, but metalcore concert pits are a fucking nightmare. Motherfucker no one needs your roundhouse kicking ass bashing them in the back of the head while they’re trying to enjoy some sick tunes. Go join a boxing gym or something, christ.

Never mind the fact even the metalcore crowd is aging and one of those kicks can put someone’s ass in the hospital for weeks or worse.

Speaking of pits, Matt Heafy of Trivium quit in the middle of a song to break up a fight when I saw them a couple of weeks ago. Most bands don’t do that so I was impressed.

I can officially confirm that as of this week I have discovered Ghost for the first time and I am completely blown away how I’ve somehow avoided/missed this band for the last ten years of my life. They are amazing. Almost guaranteed I will get tix to see them in February at one of the local shows with Volbeat.

They are one of my favorite bands - seen them 5 times. What’s impressive is that their live show has 7 performers plus Tobias singing so it sounds amazing.
