Already saw this and they did NOT book a Birmingham recehedule date. GRRRRR.
Did get tickets for the Motionless in White/Ice Nine Kills/Black Veil Brides show. Not particularly a fan of BVB, but the other two are amazing live.
It’s different venues across the board it seems as they’re at Brooklyn Bowl in Philly instead of Union Transfer. I had seen yesterday that they were coming, but not who was with them.
This is great; very cozy 1000-person venue for Charlotte. I adore these guys and was literally evangelizing about them to some friends over Thanksgiving. Thanks for the heads up!
Both The Darkness and The Dead Deads are top notch. I couldn’t have asked for a better twin bill, now or nearly two years ago pre-COVID!

Deftones/Gojira/Poppy are coming to Atlanta and Nashville. It’s been 15+ years since I’ve seen the Deftones. GOjira was one of the best live shows I’ve seen. And despite every effort not to, I love Poppy’s rock/metal music.

More hard rock/metal.
I almost forget it today!
have an extra video to compensate!

Day #33 - Crippled Black Phoenix
I have to confess I had to google up who these guys were. ‘progressive post-rock’
Day #34 - Cynic
I think we posted a new song from them a pair of months ago.
Man, I’ve totally not kept up with them since the original reunion early in the 00s. Traced was a great record, though.

Day #35 - Darkest Era
"Darkest Era are a five-piece Celtic metal band formed in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland in 2005. The group’s music is a rich blend of traditional heavy metal, black metal, and Irish folk music with lyrics that take inspiration from the myths and legends of Irish folklore. The group’s style is reminiscent of contemporaries like Primordial and Cruachan, though with a greater emphasis on melody in the style of Thin Lizzy and New Wave of British Heavy Metal Bands like Iron Maiden. Hansi from Blind Guardian + Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. Alas, we all know Schaffer went crazy.
Extra - not Metal, but hey, it starts with D
Rip D&W. Second proper metal band I ever got into, albeit via a mislabeled mp3

Yeah, Iced Earth and D&W are dead to me. Thanks Schaffer. Asshole.

For me, Loudwire does a good job of categorizing the Metal I like to listen to and always points me towards things I would not have listened to otherwise. I suspect the 2021 list doesn’t really align with the majority in this thread, although I know some probably enjoyed a few of the choices on the list.
ERRA at number 14 makes me happy along with Gojira, VOLA, Turnstile and Sleep Token. I suspect Limp Bizkit at #4 will invalidate the list for most except @DaveLong :)
Putting Rock and Metal together does make for a broad mix that I happen to like.

Yeah, it makes for a weird list.
That said Spiritbox is #1 which I have said myself and they actually have all my top albums of the year on there in the order I had them. Sure there is random filler between those albums, but still.
Youtube served me this cover
Day #37 - Destrage
“A hard-charging, genre-juggling hard rock unit based out of Milan, Italy, Destrage employs a compelling blend of melody-driven groove, math, djent, and progressive metal that’s as technically impressive as it is highly cinematic, as evidenced by thier debut Urban Being and 2016’s impressive Means To An End.”

OK, what do people think about Wage War? I think I’m still confused about what Metal is acceptable here. :)

ERRA and Architects were my most-listened to 2021 releases this year by a pretty huge margin. I still listened to Under a Godless Veil by Draconian about 5x as much, but yeah, seeing them both show up in a list that generally doesn’t contain much of what I love was actually pretty cool.
