I saw the ERRA drummer last night tending bar at one of my local places I like to go. Told him about the placement. He had no idea. He said he doesn’t care about that kind of stuff. When I showed him the list and he saw some of the other bands and read the writeup, he did think it was cool. :)

I could listen to Scorpion Hymn over and over.

Day #38 - Devil you know
https://youtu.be/amdg0g1E3bY

One of my favorite parts of Killswith Engage was the singer Howard Jones, so once he left the band, it wasn’t the same. But later I discovered he had joined this band.
Well, the thing is, after 2 albums, they had to rename it to ‘Light the Torch’ for legal reasons, so I think it will reappear later on the L, lol.

Day #39 - Dimmu Borgir

This is the top comment of the video… it’s kinda appropriate, although I guess I’m the father here.

They were pretty good back in the 90s, especially the third album ‘Enthrone Darkness Triumphant’, which remains their masterpiece. I lost interest a couple albums later.

I can tell you, my parents didn’t enjoy it. :)

Day #40 - Dio

Oh, I mean… the other Dio. The OG.

GOAT.

These guys are a weird mix of metalcore and hiphop, particularly that second song. The first has good heavy bones, and the main chorus riff is fucking rad. The latter is not my jam. I get lots of late 90s early aughts vibes from the second. Not my favorite time for metal.

You like them, though? Hell yeah!

Day #41 - Disturbed

I was tempted to pick this other one…

I shared both because of their different sounds. I actually love the second but assumed the first would be more palatable for people here. ;)

Yeah, that period is kinda where I left my love for for rap and came back to rock music. All of the angry, angsty nu metal hit all the right notes for me. I’m also weird in that I loathe 80s rock where as all my peers still worship at its altar since that was our high school and college years.

That what I listen to today is aggressive and inspired by that period in rock is not surprising.

It has been weird to watch people in the 90s/00s be thankful that grunge and nu metal “saved rock music” from hair bands and now nu metal is the bane of people’s existence. My memory is probably hazy and people were happier about the shift to grunge and not so much giant KoRn fans. [shrug]

People like what they like. In my 50s, I just can’t quite find my people any longer. :)

Totally feel you! Most of the metalheads I meet out in the flesh are doomy shoegaze fans, or like proggy math metal, and I’m a thrashy metalcore melodeath fan. I always feel like they’re more sophisticated than me.

But fuck it. I have more fun. :)

Man, try being a metalhead who doesn’t really like any singing harsher than Hansi Kursch’s rasp in Blind Guardian. I tolerate a lot of growls/screams/howls in genres like metalcore, atmospheric black metal, melodeath, and blackgaze cuz I like the music in each of those so much, but goddamn would every single one be improved by fully clear vocals.

Edit: Fully cannot get past guttural death metal grunts though. Just sounds like someone being violently ill six inches too close to a microphone for me to ever enjoy, sigh.

You rang?

I definitely struggle with vocalists who don’t actually sing. I always wonder if they listened to Accept and thought Udo was just growling. More stylists like him would be very welcome.

Day #42 - Down

NOLA is one of top albums. Also, Pepper and Corrosion of Conformity are one of the best bands that not enough people talk about with regard to their longevity and amazing songs.

I have seen so many shows in my lifetime and Corrosion and Conformity and Life of Agony remain on my bucket list of those I want to see before I can’t walk into shows any longer.

They’re technically a local band for me now, and I still haven’t seen them. So disappointed :(

for me, please

Also great.

This is off their first album 100 years ago. The whole debut album River Runs Red dealt honestly with difficult issues, but the descriptions in the lyrics and delivery struck nerves that no other band has, though many cover the same subject matter.

Would you believe I’d never heard of those guys? That was solid. Thanks for sharing!
