I love his vocals, but man, for me, they leaned too heavily into the countrified rock, for lack of a better term. That said, I saw them live after the release of Blood for Blood and they were wonderful. Now that I think about it, Shaman’s Harvest opened for them and they have a song called “Country as Fuck” and I love them although I unsuccessfully tried to hate that song and they definitely have the country rock angle covered… I guess the issue is that with Hellyeah, just for me, it seems a little more like a schtick.
My tastes are confusing.
I only have an album from them, and yeah ‘countrified hard rock’ is how I would define them. I don’t know if they were different on previous albums?

I think on their earlier efforts it wasn’t as prevalent, but they hit on something that worked. I’m not blaming them. More power to them. I’ll just always, like many, prefer the Chad/Mudvayne days. I can still listen to “Dig” and be amazed at how great it is.

Day #68 - Hurt
https://youtu.be/NThCh-_mgag
More hard rock. It occurs to me that I may be having a not really good representation of my tastes, with this daily posting of artists, because I tend to have more single albums of rock/hard rock bands, while from the heavy metal bands I have more entire/almost entire discographies. So I may post about three rock bands in three days, and oly one of Metallica or Iced Earth, but I have more albums from the latter than the former put together.

Day #69 - Iced Earth

A great metal band for the 69th position (niiice), with a greatly stupid lead, John Schafer. As you may know, he was involved in the assault in Washington one year ago, which caused most of the band members to leave it and to the publisher to drop the band.
The members have changed over the years…
usually, fans had always a soft spot for Matt Barlow as singer. Me too, although I could dig Tim Owens higher pitch, which contrasted with the music well. I’m less of a fan of their last singer, Stu Block.

Iced Earth used to be a great band. Now they’re dead to me.

That Ghost song I linked above? The Spotify version is better (longer solo/etc):
The Ghost song is pretty neat.

Instrumental band, post-rock/metal.

New ERRA single. It is a weird thing going to a local bar for years and seeing this quiet, small dude serve you drinks, find out much later that he plays drums in a band and then see him at a show and in music videos. Alex is so unassuming and doesn’t broadcast any of it.

Matt Heafy (of Trivium) Is apparently working on a side project called Ibaraki. Single featuring Ihsahn of Emperor:

I will have to follow that side project. Not bad.
Day #71 - Ill Niño

Spanglish numetal!
This would be a good song…

if the singer could do something more than growl…

I’m liking what I’m hearing out of these guys. Their older stuff, iirc, I didn’t like at all.
This is the song that put them on my radar, not sure if it counts as metal, but whatever it’s really good and near as I can tell they’re a metal band normally:

Going from essentially Crystal Lake to whatever the second song is has me really interested.
Day #73 - Iron Maiden
Here it’s where I confess I’m not the biggest Maiden fan. I think because I’ve never liked a lot Dickison’s voice in the first albums. It’s in the last albums which I heard less where he sounds better.
After the extra videos the other day, I skipped yesterday’s video to not spam too much. We come back to the schedule.
Day #74 - Iron Savior

I liked the first albums of this Power Metal band, but I hadn’t listened to them in a good while. In fact this video comes from a 2020 album I didn’t know.
edit: I’m listening to the last album, and they sure as hell they haven’t changed.
Hah, yeah, they seem to very reliably produce the same thing every few years, but it’s great. Dark Assault is one of my all-time most-listened-to albums.
