Black Album be like

Whoa! Someone likes St. Anger!

My list:

Puppets, duh. Sanitarium is the best emo song of all time. I used to want Orion played at my funeral. Damage Inc is just incredibly good, and Disposable Heroes has one of the best secret solos of all time–I always forget how amazing it is. Battery is probably the best single song ever written. And followed by Master of Puppets? Has there ever been a better one-two punch on an album…ever?

Then Lightning. It doesn’t get better than a stadium full of people pumping their fists in the air and chanting DIE! during the breakdown of Creeping Death.

The Black Album was the soundtrack of my high school days, so I love it. Kill em All is dope, with Seek and Destroy nearly perfect. Justice is pretty great, but the overall sound isn’t as nice to listen to.

Load is 50% good songs, with one great: King Nothing is a fuckin BANGER.

Reload has one ‘fine’ song, Fuel, that has the same quality level as a mid-tier AC/DC song like Give the Dog a Bone or Cover You in Oil. Better than I Want a Mistress for Christmas, though.

I own St Anger and Death Magnetic, and haven’t listened to either all the way through.

A fairly obscure pick for number 100. I think I found it randomly on YT ?

Day #106 - Nightingale

Another artist which album I have no idea when or where I got it…
They don’t sound bad!

I have a real soft spot for Nightingale. It’s so tacky, but I dunno, it still does for me.

I got into them because this was the first metal song I ever listened to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjqrhz7u6BM

That’s what brought me into the scene. The singer is Dan Swanö, who is in Nightingale with his brother Dag.

They still hold pride of place on my battlejacket, and I think the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life, is when I was told I was gonna get a call from Dan Swanö to interview for a metal megazine I was writing for, to talk about Bloodbath.

It turned out he bailed, and it was Jonas Renkse from Katatonia instead. I’ve never been so disappointed to talk to a metal celebrity before.

This is one of the best progressive/concept death metal albums ever made in my opinion (or songs):

It’s funny because in the late 90s, early aughts, Dan Swanö was one of the most prolific guys in the scene. He was “the sideproject man”. If Dan Swanö wasn’t in your band, you probably weren’t in the scene, and that actually led to some people thinking he was uncool at the time.

I remember taking a lot of flak for being an Edge of Sanity fanboy, I had to tell a lot of people off, and it’s funny, because today when people see me with a patch or a shirt they’re like “Oh my god, so good”, and I’m just thinking “Where the fuck were you 20 years ago?”

Same, that early Edge of Sanity catalogue is fantastic. I slightly favoured Spectral Sorrows, but Unorthodox, Purgatory Afterglow, and Crimson are all essential. :)

Not to mention, his studio Unisound was a pretty desired destination for bands back then too.

Another new Ghost song:

Nice guitar solo toward the end.

I dunno. For me, everything I’ve heard from this newest album (dropping very soon) is taking me a bit of time to warm up to.

I mean, I always do warm up to it, but it’s never taken 5 or 6 plays until I can enjoy it, such is the case with these most recent releases.
