Man I love these dudes but never remember to listen to them until I happen across them by chance. Know what I’m gonna be jamming to today, now!
I only have two old albums from them. I should check out what they have done in the… let me check… last 21 years. Lol.
My buddy James Peterson’s solo project Spectria has become a band once again just in time to drop a track for Wilderun’s “Distraction II” song contest, which they wound up winning.
Definitely still a little raw, but this dude’s galaxy brain songwriting is gonna absolutely slap one of these days when he gets access to production that matches his vision, hah.
Oh, and Gerard Way as harsh vox on a proggy quasi black metal release??

Day #128 - Protest the Hero
“Continuing along with the more grounded approach the band took on 2011’s Scurrilous, Protest the Hero return with Volition, an album of driving technical metal that once again puts the Canadian prog metal outfit’s considerable musicianship on display.”
We finished the P, yayyy.
Day #129 - Queensrÿche
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4duZjxusGM
“Although they were initially grouped with the legions of pop-metal bands that dominated the American heavy metal scene of the '80s, Queensrÿche were one of the most distinctive bands of the era. Where their contemporaries built on the legacy of Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Kiss, Queensrÿche constructed a progressive form of heavy metal that drew equally from the guitar pyrotechnics of post-Van Halen metal and '70s art rock, most notably Pink Floyd and Queen”

This is a fabulous tour. JP were amazing. I’ll have a few more vids later today on my channel there. I’m sure there’s lots of footage out there from these shows. If you’re still able to get to a date, do it! Queensryche is playing no song newer than Empire.
Also, I recorded Lightning Strike because my 21 year old son is a big fan of Firepower (their most recent release), which is a terrific Priest record from beginning to end.

I mean while Promised Land and Hear in the New Frontier aren’t terrible, like some later releases, neither are they anywhere near as good as their 1984-1990 ootput.
That’s true, but if you haven’t listened to the two current albums with this lineup, you should. They are both excellent. They are also somewhat more metal than the progressive sounds from back then.

I saw Queensryche perform when Empire was released way back in the day (92ish?). They played the entirety of Operation Mindcrime in that show which you can see on Operation Livecrime. You can even see a glimpse of me in the 3rd row.
Too bad about the drama that group has gone through in recent years.
I saw Queensryche in Fort Lauderdale in '89. They played all of Operation:Mindcrime.
They were opening for Metallica. Who would… just… not… stop… playing.
I almost passed out and had to be hauled out of the pit. Not because I was too drunk or high, but because I was fuckin’ exhausted.
It’s taken me 30 years or so, but I realize that I have never seen a better concert, and probably never will again until I hit the heavenly Hammersmith Odeon.
Day #132 - Rainbow

I discovered Rainbow relatively late (three or four years ago?) but I loved it, these albums and the first two Dio albums are my favorite Ronnie James Dio epoch
Day #133 - Rammstein
Another famous band that doesn’t need intro.

Why does Dave Mustaine have an Alice in Chains gold album award?
Somehow I ended up listening to EZO again today. I’m guessing few will know, but those who do… well, you know.
Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps that was shot at a studio or maybe a producers place and isn’t Dave’s wall?
