This band is something of an obsession for me, Chile’s Acero Letal. They’ve only put out a couple of demos and singles, and they seem to be operating squarely on the wrong side of the Atlantic, but fuck me, they’re so awesome.
It’s maddening that they still haven’t put out an album. These guys should be touring the world!
Judas Priest entered the Hall of Fame yesterday. It was good to see KK Jam with them again.

One thing that always struck me about Halford’s vocals is that they sounded better when he was featured on other people’s songs.
His sound guys never did him justice, imo.
I went to The Abyss Festival over the weekend. It was a pretty stacked line-up, but the big deal for me was getting to see Natur again.
A few years ago these guys out of New York were playing everywhere in Europe, and it was always a thrill to see them on stage, so getting to do that again for the first time after the pandemic was a pretty emotional experience.
They were in a slot between Nifelheim and Watain, which would be intimidating to most people, but I talked to the drummer before the show, and I pointed out that they were opening for Watain, and he said “Nah, we’re headlining Nifelheim!!!”
Sure enough, the show was packed to the doors, and there were heads flying everywhere. It was perfect.
It’s been 17 years between drinks, but Epoch of Unlight deliver the goods in At War with the Multiverse.
Catchy album throughout, of mostly melodic death. They used to be blacker, but I’ll take it. :)
And here’s some top-tier black thrash that landed recently. Right up my alley, this thing is old-school modern, enrapturing yet savage throughout - glorious! :)
Daeva - Through Sheer Will and Black Magic
Daeva is baller. Small wonder when you see who’s in the band, a bunch of dudes from Crypt Sermon.
There’s a YouTube channel called Sea of Tranquility. It has various discussions of hard rock, metal, progressive music, album reviews etc. Lots of bands I’ve never heard of along with the more popular stuff. Worth a watch if you’re looking for new stuff. I found some interesting Italian Prog bands through these guys. Hudson Valley Squares is a weekly show that is definitely metal orientated.
It’s quite the contrast from The Ruins of Fading Light (which I also loved). :)
Trivium has released a new music video of a track of the past album

Tomorrow I’m gonna go see the finest Norwegian black metal that Poland has to offer
Heck yeah! I’m not much of a doom guy, so I tell myself that doom bands must be really good if I wanna listen to them, and Crypt Sermon is definitely one of those.
Disturbed has released a new album. They… sound more or less like always

I finally got to listen to the new Alter Bridge record over the weekend. I wouldn’t say it’s a total return to form for them, but I do like it a lot. There’s some really good stuff on there. Recommended.
Also, I’m going to tell all you guys about it because I doubt it would go over in any other music thread quite so well, but if you haven’t, you should definitely listen to the new EP from Billy Idol. YES! THAT Billy Idol!
Steve Stevens does some amazing guitar work and there are some great poppy riffs combined with a bit harder edge. My favorite thing about it though is you can just see Idol’s sneering visage when he sings and it’s so iconic. I absolutely love what he’s been doing recently. Highly recommended!
Also, Epica has a new EP, called Alchemy Project because it’s a collaboration project with different bands:
Oh man, love me some Shining-not-the-Swedish-one.
It’s really amusing to me that they went from this:

I have a theory that Deathspell Omega has an equally snazzy jazz band somewhere that nobody knows about. They all smoke pipes and drink sherry and wear turtleneck sweaters.
New music video from Rammsteim
https://youtu.be/skl6N3zGv-s
As usual of the, it has high production values, although I also got a kick of how ridiculous it is, because they are getting close to 60 years old already, but of course in the video they go full black trench coat + weapons + makeup.

Those lyrics give a strong impression of it being their last thing.
Also death, of course, but “One last song, one last kiss. No miracle will happen, good bye” seems like a “Rammstein is over” vibe.
I had the pleasure of seeing Hällas again last night.
They’re responsible for one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen at a metal show. At Muskelrock in 2018 there was a gnarly heatwave, and everyone was dying. It was close to 30C/85F degrees, which is seriously freakish for Sweden in early June.
Hällas were playing the small stage, which is inside an old carnival dance floor called the rotunda - which is covered - and it must’ve been at least 35/95 degrees in there. I didn’t see how they could pull off anything like a proper show, but they played hard, and they completely shredded everybody because that’s just what they do.
Not only that, but they got the single longest round of applause I’ve ever seen. People stood inside the rotunda yelling for Hällas for more than 10 minutes after they’d played the last song. I’ve never seen people suffer that much for a band. The road manager came out and tried to explain that they weren’t coming back, and people just didn’t listen.
Every show ends with this song, and the words “Beware of the mighty Hällas”. It’s good advice.
Also, the new album is amazing:

There’s no way those guys are gonna remain in the underground.
“Star Rider” is probably, like, the fifth greatest song of all time, so, yeah, Hallas are fucking amazing. Thanks for the tip on the new album!
