If you are in the mood for some unknown bands in the prog/art rock/metal, usually instrumental, Pelagic Records is doing a small festival in Netherlands
Thanks, @El_Conquistador. I’m really digging Sidewinder, and even went to listen to more on their channel.
Yeah, that sounded nice. I didn’t know them before.
@Giles_Habibula . I’d never heard of them either until yesterday. Apparently, this is their second album and first with this singer. Her voice is incredible and I’m loving it paired with the doom/stoner soundscape.
Yeah, I listened to some of the first album, and while it was good, the male voice, which was fine, held it back to being merely pretty good. Switching to that female vocalist was definitely the right move, and really makes their entire soundscape stand out. She’s great!
I normally use my private collection or youtube music/youtube to listen to music, not Spotify. In fact I hadn’t open Spotify in years.
However, the other day I did it, and started browsing my favorite bands. I started to notice the number of followers, and they mostly made sense: these big ‘mainstream’ bands like Metallica or RATM or Ramnsteins with 10+ millions of followers, these fairly famous bands like Nightwish or Killswitch Engage with a pair of millions, recognized veterans like Blind Guardian (although they are less famous in the States) or Opeth with 800K, etc.
But from the list, these ones held my attention as too few followers in comparison with their quality:
Ayreon 120K followers. This is a great “rock/metal opera” project! The Human Equation, The Theory of Everything, The Source, Transitus, some great albums here. Even more, Avantasia is very similar but not as good imo, and it has 700K followers in comparison?
Baroness 150K followers. Not bad, but I don’t know why I imagined they were more known.
Ne Obliviscaris 94K followers. They still have few albums, but the quality is super high
The Ocean 91K followers. One of my favorite bands that I discovered in the lat 10 years, I was surprised how they are still these unknown. And their quality is higher and higher in their last albums.
Love The Ocean. It’s a shame they are not so well known.
/shakes hand
At least, we can play the card of ‘oh, I love such and such indie band. The name? Oh don’t bother, I’m sure you have never heard of it’ /smug punchable face
