I understand “every” industry does it. That doesn’t change the fact that not every company does it.
Premium salaries and benefits and locations require premium sacrifices sometimes. But I am sure the world-weary. labor force experienced grad students at Kotaku or Eurogamer will write a piece comparing what Rockstar’s employees “went through” to the plight of migrant workers in the San Joaquin Valley.
This is a weird argument you’re making. Are you saying that because there are people in the world who have it worse, folks who work 100 hour work weeks should just shut up and get back to work?
No I am saying that we are talking about the Mercedes Benz of companies who pay top dollar and deliver top benefits and conditions in their industry. So immediately jumping into “Exploitation” is a bit extreme.
In any case, OT here. See Nightgaunt’s thread where we really get into it for more debate. :)
All right, how about we ratchet back the rhetoric a bit then? A 100 hour work week is excessive. It doesn’t matter that you and I and a million other people have done it. I’d like to think Rockstar employees were well compensated for their use of time but I think it’s a fair question to ask, and the article seems to e asking this question.
You go, Player!
Sure, I got all that at Microsoft and then got worked like a dog. Up until a certain point I didn’t mind, it was a fair trade. And then I hit my tipping point and I was out. I’m not making a judgment call on Rockstar because each employee has to decide this for themselves, and this impacts my purchasing decision not one bit. But this is still totally fair to ask and discuss because I guarantee it’s got quality of life impacts on those workers.
Concur. My point is that it is being discussed there (in a thread spun off for that purpose and I’m in there) not here. :)
Yeah but I don’t read that thread, I read this one.
Who’s Smokin’ the Aces now, Mr. Dive?
You know what they say about Reality and Fantasy…
All right, I read the other thread, I ain’t even getting in the middle of that. You guys have it covered.
Lets get back to fun! Evereyone, nominate a film you think you wanna watch before playing RDR2 when it drops!
I’ll start!
The whole “tale of a gang across multiple states” is what has me wanting to see this one. Also:
Yeah, the whole gang of thieves thing and the train robbery puts me in mind of Butch Cassidy, that would probably be my choice. Is there another western with a good train robbery scene?
So no revolution, then? It was all social media/internet freakout? Dang it…
Train-Robbery movies:
This on is REALLY cool for the Mifune fans. Great movie!
Honestly when this first blew up here and I saw @Nightgaunt make his new thread my initial feeling reading the interview was “this is probably just something this guy does, put in 100 hours” but it was just a feeling and for all I knew there really is a big problem and Rockstar needed to put some work into making a better work environment, so I held my tongue. I’m glad it’s not really an actual issue.
It’s OK, @Nightgaunt is halfways off to the Pecos now on his Cesar Chavez horse(or Sushi Jetpack). I love you @Nightgaunt! :)
By the way can we now make it "Sushi Jetpack ™ " That term is cool for “treated like royalty at work”.
Tell Kotaku and Eurogamer to stop the presses!
