Well, later Author does make comments about him getting bitten so many times, so it’s worth helping him just to hear that. ;)

The random stranger encounters are MUCH better, due to the greater variety, than RDR1. One of my biggest complaints in RDR1 was that there were about 3 or 4 total encounters: The guy flagging you down saying he lost his horse, the woman beside the broken down wagon, and I can’t even remember another one. You got those with a “surprise” the first time you interacted with them, then it was the exact same thing EVERY time, for the entire length of the game.

That stuff is so charming when it happens! The little details in the game just shines when you see it.

Also, if you help him out, you may find him sitting outside a store and if he sees you, he will offer to buy you one of anything in the store.

Well that’s cool. I don’t think I ever had that happen. I helped him several times, and I do think I remember Arthur commenting on it, but never got the store reward for it.

He did that for me. Although I only helped him once.

I guess it’s possible I’m forgetting. It’s been a bit.

Did you know there are at least two snakebite guys in the game? First one I found in whatever area Valentine is in (West Elizabeth, maybe?). Helped him twice, got a free gun when I saw him in town. Second guy I found in Lemoyne. Again helped him twice, got something free from the general store in Rhodes.

Damn, Rockstar is so lazy.

I got two free guns from folks I helped. I forget which ones, but the snake guy was one.

Yep, I also got free stuff from one of the general stores in a town from another person I had helped.

You can save a guy from a beartrap and also a guy from being poisoned by eating a plant, can’t remember which one rewards you.

Getting a free expensive gun or expensive outfit is kinda nice, especially early on. I kind think they should patch the bank robbery reward to about $750, that $2000+ you get is what breaks the economy (assuming you don’t go all gold bar crazy, but those arent story related).

Slight location spoilers, maybe:

Does anyone know the exact location of that giant dead snake in the swamp?

So friends, let me ask you: Are there likeable characters in this game? One reason I bounced of GTAV so heavily, as well as many of the GTA games (beyond 1 and 2) is that so many of the characters were just dillholes. I’m told this is better in a lot of respects. What say y’all?

Man, I love Arthur. I didn’t play him as a dick, though. Hosea’s another good one. Lenny, Charles, Tilly…yeah, there are some good ones. Also some annoying and one or two down right hateable ones.

You can play as one. Although Arthur has some amazing asshole lines too if chosen.

Dang, I was hoping y’all would tell me no so I’d not be tempted to buy and stream it.

OK how about this, for what it’s worth: I consider it the single best game I have ever played.

Sadie Adler is awesome y’all.

It’s the most un-Rockstar game I’ve ever played in that respect. There were a few ‘jokey’ questlines, but nothing juvenile like most stuff in GTA games. Most of the characters feel real rather than just one note douches. It felt like the writing was done by actual adults. I’m playing through the third time right now, and it’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played, and one the most fully realized worlds.

This is so much correct.
