Just did a stagecoach robbery with Bill and Tilly. I failed it first time because I thought after jumping on the coach mid race, I had to press Y again to actually start driving it, but that instead meant falling off.
Then I did it correctly, stopped it, but used dynamite to open it incorrectly, killing Bill’s horse and thus mission failed.
Third time I did not kill his horse, but the dynamite killed the horses connected to the coach, lowering my honor.
Fourth time I finally tried freeing the horses first, which worked, then exploring the dynamite correctly, which also worked, and finally suceeding the mission. Wheew.

Yeah there are some fun ways to complete missions with more, or less, honor. I was chasing a bounty last night and had tried to lassoe him multiple times but he kept speeding up and getting away. I finally gave up and shot his horse out from under him. Felt badly for the horse but the bounty was safely bundled and dragged to jail :-)

Is that the “journal” button, then, vs having to pull it out of your satchel?

Heh, did you see how I handled it? I posted a video of the end, earlier.
The best thing about it is how, after I did it, I got good karma.

Where ? I didn’t seeee your video.

If you hold it down, you’ll open the journal but if you tap left you’ll get your “to do” list.

Spoiler here, don’t watch this until after you do the quest with the homeless guy you met in Rhodes.

Help me understand the lasso mechanics. I know how to throw it and put it around who/what I want to lasso. And it appears I then have to hold down the R2 to keep them lassoed? But I don’t know what to do after that.

I was trying to get a zebra (yeah, you’ll understand if you haven’t seen this yet) and take it somewhere. I had no option to calm it, but I could get close enough to lasso it. But then I had no idea what to do with it after I had it lassoed.

I thought I had to lasso it as well but when the option came up to calm it I just kept doing that until it said it was calm enough to follow me. Then I just walked to my horse and rode back to, er, dude.

One you lasso something, you need to hold down L2. If you release it, it will release whatever you have captured.

With L2 held, you can either:

  1. continue riding your horse, which will drag whatever you have lassoed behind you, or lead them if they are an animal.
  2. get off and walk toward them, shortening the toe as you go. When close, you can hit triangle and jump onto them, even if you can’t calm them. But then you will do the bucking bronco mini game until you break them.

For the zebra, i think you need to calm it from a distance, no lasso involved… Generally, if you have something lassoed, you can’t calm it i don’t think.

That was my exact reaction to that guy, with the same result. I’m disturbed by your Arthur’s jaunty hat and huge lamb chops

Ah ok, I didn’t kill him, figured better to let him suffer alive.

I am pretty far into chapter 3 now, Arthur just had a really really really bad day. Next day I had the chance I headed over to Valentine for a bath, hair cut and shave, and new clothes. Also gave my horse the maintenance package from the stables. Spared no expense, life is too short!

I never cut his sideburns through the entire game, and drank all the hair tonic i could find… still was only able to get them up to length 9 though… I think they are only like length 6 in that video though.

The hat belonged to one of the dudes in the house.

After i kill a bunch of guys, i always grabbed one of their hats.

Weird thing is that some hats can be stolen, and you have them permanently… I have an army hat that i got like that. I have no idea what makes hats like that though.

I am pretty sure I lose my hat once every day. Thankfully my horse is good at finding it.

Whoa, I didn’t make that connection! It’s certainly not explicit in the game where it came from, but I bet you’re right, Papageno.

There is actually a line Arthur delivers in a mission (it might be an optional stranger one, now I think of it) where he admits as much, even*.

*Sorry, not meaning you should have known that, more along the lines of "there is a lot of detail in the story beats and it’s crazy how often it all comes together smoothly.

Yeah, it’s made it explicit, but only in optional side missions.

I knew exactly when it happened though… Maybe because I’m kind of a germophobe.

I’d love to know what he says if you can think of any specifics! So much of what we learn about Arthur is through brief but illuminating glimpses. I love how much weight the game has when Arthur actually talks about himself.

Holy crap those chapter 3 final few missions. D:

I think it’s actually said by him when he’s trying to get the guys widow and son out of the mining town, there is a series of missions there and I’m pretty sure he admits her husband killed him, right back, or something along those lines.

Yeah, I was shocked when, during a ride with the Indian chief, Arthur can (optionally!) open up about his own deceased son. That was powerful stuff.
