I’ve given up on the pc in general when it comes to ports. Even if it does come out, it will probably be broken in someway.
Just started this up after clearing a few titles off my backlog and I’m really blown away by this title. By far the best western game I’ve played, but I don’t get why the controls ignore the capabilities of an analog stick for determining speed in most cases.
Yeah the tap A to move faster machanic messes with me. On the horse I get it because it is tied to the spurs but I’m not sure why you do that with walking. You don’t spur yourself.

Just pull out your gun and you will run at max speed without having to tap A.

I don’t know, I find that spurring myself in the ass is definitely an excellent motivator to pick up my pace…

I just started playing this game too… It is amazing… Haven’t been hooked on a game like this in a loooooooong time. I am hoping this isnt a honeymoon period thing where, after a few more missions, I fall out of love with this game due to sheer repetitivity. Fingers crossed this doesn’t happen…

I had the same feeling since I’m not huge into westerns and rockstar games. But I really think it keeps going strong as long as you are willing to just ignore the side quests that you don’t enjoy. Unlike some games (Mass Effect 2 most notably) you really don’t in any way need to do the optional quests. You don’t need the money and having all the different gear and stuff is cool but not needed to progress. I enjoyed treasure hunting, but I definitely passed on picking flowers for old people or hunting animals or whatever.

The “pick flowers for old people” mission was twisted.
It really is an excellent game. It still boggles my mind they never converted this to PC. Convert it, post it to Steam, make lot’s of money. Seems like a no-brainer.

The only things I disliked in the game were the (thankfully few) racing missions and I had quite some difficulty in duels/shootouts. Otherwise it was about 50 play-hours of awesome. I didn’t even fast travel very often simply because it was a pleasure riding around and enjoying the levels and design and artwork. You are in for a great time, DrDel.
It’s a great game but has the typical Rockstar failures. Mash A to run (why?); interesting plot lines come to an abrupt and unsatisfying end; the shoot-out tutorial is insufficient; why can’t I tame this damn horse?; etc.
I wish they’d make a PC version, though.

Yeah, do that one.
The only thing that got repetitive for me were the “random” encounters - seemed like there were only about 5 or so, and every one was the same every time (lady on the side of the road asking for help, guy flagging you down asking for a ride into town, etc.)
The Mexico portion, as discussed in some detail previously, felt completely out of character for my player, but once I got out of Mexico, it was the kind of game that will stay with me for a long time. Don’t want to get into spoiler territory, but there were a couple of moments that stick with me as much as some key moments in some of the great movies I’ve seen.
Without getting too spoilery, the best way to play Mexico is this - do all the ‘General’ (I think - and that’s a military rank, not a adjective) missions first, only doing the other strands when you have to, then do the others. The story flows so much better that way.
If this ever came out for PC, not only would I pay full price for it again, it’d still be a day 1 purchase.

I’d be tempted to pay full price on the PC to use it as a screensaver. I love the environments. Possibly the best in any game, ever.
Alas, Rockstar will apparently never see the sense of porting this title to the PC, so when the current consoles die, we’ll never be able to play this game again.

I had a difficult night last night not being able to play RDR… Xbox Live was down and I made a mistake of saving all SP games on Xbox Cloud… so I couldnt access them. Therefore I went back to Deus Ex 2 last night… which made me dislike the game more! It pales in comparison to RDR.
I just had a “duh” moment typing up this forum post… I could have tried out RDR multiplayer last night instead of playing Deus Ex! duh!
Yeah, I guess it’s nice that they offer the cloud service, but Xbox Live just isn’t reliable enough for me to depend on them. Besides, cloud backup of saves should be exactly that. It should work like Steam and be a copy of the save on your local drive, not a complete substitute that locks you out once the net is down.
Arise thread!
The GOTY of this was FINALLY on sale at a decent price, so I finally picked up a copy and played some last night, only making past a couple of ranch missions to one in Armadillo. So far it’s VERY engaging. The targeting system is wonderful, the graphics are gorgeous, and I think I’m gonna like this a lot. I’m still finding horse travel weird though (not used to having to repeatedly push a button to move forward, I’m used to holding it down). Very excited to finally play this, though. :)
Goddammit. No one is allowed to update this thread until the PC version is announced. :)
