Monster!

But seriously, now I have my PS3 in my office I can use it more freely, and it’s been a long time (since a week out from release day) that I completed this guy, and I sort of miss it (having sold it sometime after I beat it, indending to get the PC version, ha-ha). Where did you get the GOTY version, how much was it, what does it contain, and can I get it for the PS3?

I got it at Best Buy for $16, and apparently it has everything. The sale appears to be over now, as it’s back up to $30. :(

Gah! Ah well. Thanks for putting this back on my radar, I never did any of the DLC (undead nightmare sounded awesome, too) so maybe I’ll keep an eye peeled for an Amazon sale or something this summer.

Sorry, I thought I was the last person who didn’t own the game, or I’d have shared it. :/

Maybe you were the last person to own it, but not play it. I got it as a x-mas present and still haven’t played it!

Well, I actually DID try the game out shortly after it came out when a friend let me borrow it for a few days and I thought it was great, but only put about an hour into it back then. Gotta make a dent into my backlog!

Anyway, from what I played of it, ROckstar really captured the essence of the western. I would love an open world full-fledged RPG in this setting.

No worries, I only just got $40 to spend today, and I’m already blowing that on Eador and a copy (finally) of Dawn of Discovery Gold. But I set aside a large chunk of cash for the summer sales, so I’ll pick it up then, even at $30 it’s a great deal.

Just remember Brian: when you get to Mexico, if you’re like me, things will get rough. You might abandon the game for a while. But it’s tooooootally worth it to power through it and get to Act III. Act III is wonderful.

Thinking back I don’t recall Mexico being that bad. :)

I really need to play the DLC, I bought the GOTY edition like a year ago, its still wrapped. :(

Also I guess, don’t get off your horse right away when you hit Mexico. I missed the song :(.

Me too. Albeit a bit long, zhe mexican part isn’t that bad. It could be a problem if you’re trying to play this as some sort of RPG with Marston as your avatar. Beware, this is not, I repeat, this is not an RPG. There are no (real) choices. Get immersed. But not that kind of immersed.

Yeah, I hear a lot of “Mexico is bad” but honestly I didn’t think that at all while I was playing. YMMV I suppose.

I have this and really have to play it soon :D

The mistake I made was staying too long in the first Act, because I didn’t know there was an Act II and I didn’t want the gameplay to end. When I reached Mexico and realized “oh shit, this game is huge”, I was tired of it.

Still, I loved the game and finished Act III a few months later. My advice to new players is to go-go-go. The game world is enormous and if you like a particular mechanic, don’t feel like you have to stay in one spot to keep playing it. There will be tons of content for you as you progress.

I was just gonna keep doing the missions as they crop up, like from the sherrif and Bonnie and such.

I can’t understand why Rockstar picked this title in particular to forego a Windows version, instead of the “you played it once and you’re done” LA Noire (with the inexplicable extra “e”). Grrr.

I didn’t notice an appreciable quality difference in Mexico; rather by that point I had started to suffer from GTA fatigue.

This was a great game. I put it down before the zombie stuff came out. I keep meaning to revisit it for that.

Yeah, great, great game. The first and only I onehundredpercented. I’m still unsure if this is my most loved game of all time. I’ve still to finish it in full-outlaw-mode though.

This game is really amazing.

I only did the story missions and the one stranger mission that rolled the credits.

So what should I do next?

  1. Play all the stranger missions as Jack?
  2. Revert to an earlier save (that I luckily preserved) and play all the stranger missions as John?
  3. Play the undead dlc?
  4. Play another game altogether. I have already seen the best this game has to show.

I vote #3. That’s some great DLC, not to mention one of the better zombie games you can play.
