Man :( Is there such a thing as a PS4 emulator? Seems like there should be.
Red Dead Redemption was only on 360 and PS3. Did you mean PS3 emulator? Not yet, I don’t think. I hope that when it does come, the PS3 and 360 emulators are as good as PCSX2 was for the PS2. It made my original disc PS2 games look way better than they ever did on the original machine.
I don’t think they meant quality wise but “bad” with respect to some of the things that happened and you participated in.
Yeah, this pretty much sucked.
Two RDR threads bumped in one day. Figured it must be because Rockstar finally announced an incoming PC port. Now I am disappointed.
Nah, R* is just sitting on the IP because reasons.
I am sure they are making RDR 2 multiplaform with PC version delayed (all those double/triple dippers, yeeeeah), but yeah it sucks that the only version of RDR I will only ever be able to replay is sub720p 25fps PS3 one, and that is only if I find the resolve to reconnect the PS3 to TV again.
Bump.
RobC04 wanted to know if playing RDR would be a good way to spend the weekend while the family’s away, even if he didn’t care for GTA V.

This is the thread I always click in hopes that someone’s heard a rumor of a PC release.
Oh, well. :)
Yes. I think That RDR is much more fun than the GTA games. I’m not really a fan of GTA, though I am finding 5 generally more fun than the others which I tired of almost immediately. I think a more relevant question is how much does said individual like westerns? I really enjoy Clint Eastwood westerns a fair bit, and for my RDR was like playing a game version of that. It’s got some story pacing issues here and there and it bottoms out in Mexico a bit, but the game is well worth playing.

That bodes well since I share your opinion of GTA. Traditionally I’m not a big western fan but I have enjoyed some western-themed games, like Call of Juarez Gunslinger. I’ll probably fire up RDR later today. Thanks!
I thought the PC Release was out now that this thread got bumped.
I suppose I could finish it on my 360 though.
Exactly!
Rock8man, you can just burn in hell (for the weekend, anyway) for bumping this thread!

You can blame me. Rock8man was just helping me out because I posted my question in the wrong thread.
You should finish it. One of the best final acts in the world of gaming period.

Think of it as a Western Noir, a cross between a classic film noir and a western. With one of the more gut wrenching scenes I can remember in decades of gaming. The Mexico section has some problems for me in terms of consistency of character, but yeah, absolutely play it.
I recommend watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. That movie always puts me in the mood to play RDR. Really, any of the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. Or Once Upon a Time in the West, another classic.
My PS3 and 360 are both boxed up now (I bought copies of RDR for both consoles), so I really hope MS adds the game to their BC titles on the XB1.
If Rockstar ever announces a sequel, I would scream in glee like a little girl.
Actually there is a separate thread for RDR on PC, and I purposely didn’t post in that thread for this very reason.
So, you’re welcome. :-p
RDR isn’t totally unlike GTA, so be warned. It depends on what GTA things you do and don’t enjoy.
The basic narrative structure of your missions in most GTA games wears on me. There’s the big overall whatever arc, which is usually fine, but for most of the middle of most of the games, you’re working your way through a couple NPC’s at a time—shrugging and acquiescing to implausible requests from unlikeable characters that seem totally out of line with your character’s overall goals and motivations. And then an inevitable confrontation with whoever your’e “helping”, and then you’re on to the next little arc with the next letter on your mini-map.
If you don’t like that, be ready: you do the same thing in RDR. “Why am I helping these assholes?” is constantly on your mind.
BUT! RDR is worth it. Stick with it. Maybe that won’t even bother you, all the better. But for me, I was frustrated and still ultimately found the game rewarding and worth my time.
